Park said in an article yesterday there's nothing to do in Ames except school and football. Deandre Kane said Ames is there to focus on school and basketball.

Takes guys that commit 100% to school and football to come here and turn the program around. Are completely dedicated to improving your game then Ames seems like a fit. If you're interested in playing but also social scene Ames is not the place. I think that's something to sell young guys.

Send 'em copies of articles from Forbes and other national magazines that rate Des Moines a happening place for young people ;-)

I dont buy the whole if you want something to do outside of practice and school go somewhere else. I get if you are warm weather fan or love the beach you would not choose a northern school. But if you are a broke college kid more than likely without a car, Ames Iowa offers pretty much the same stuff as any other college town.

My standards must be lower than Park's or Kane's, because I thought the social scene was just fine when I attended ISU, and I'm assuming it hasn't gotten worse in the past 20 years.

I moved to Ames from the middle of big city in the middle of a big metro area and hated it for the first year. It was such a complete culture shock my dad had to talk me into staying.

After 4 or 5 years (and those of us looking back) we realize it's an awesome place, but let's not forget many athletes are coming from places much different than Ames, IA and it is a shock to the system.

I just moved to Ft Lauderdale. Believe me folks, there's nothing to do in Ames Iowa compared to this place. It boggles the mind. Only my 3rd week down here, the adjustment is on going. I can understand why people from a large metropolis would stray away from Ames.

Some people find the wide open spaces in Iowa isolating. Now that I live in a city, I miss it. All just in what you're looking for. As far as when I attended ISU, the social scene was great, but I loved living on campus. Being a full-time student athlete is a whole different story. Especially people who fancy themselves future NFL players.

I'll admit it can be boring at times but at least its cheap to golf here, the fishing is alright and the beer scene gets better every day. You really just need to try a little of everything to see what you like.
If anyone has any non sanctioned camping spots they would like to divulge that would be great. I love to camp but not the biggest fan of the DNR sanctioned camp sites.

Just need to find someone that will let you use their land. If you're looking for something with electric hook up, I really like Rock Creek near Kellogg. Very low, key. Big pond/reservoir, clean. No idea if that it is DNR but I venture to guess they have something to do with it.

Not looking for hookups. Just want to go somewhere where I can make my own site, fire pit, and not see any other groups.

Can't believe no one's posted this tweet yet.
This has kick to the stones written all over it...

Josh, if you're reading this, I'm begging you to delete your response to this tweet. It's not a good look for Cyclone fans. I can't remember your username offhand, or I'd tag you.

Which response was it? I don't see any that don't look good. Maybe he deleted it though.

Don't even begin to get your hopes up. Even if he did commit to ISU on 8/8, he's a kid that's going to take other visits.
