And FWIW, I enjoyed this season more than last season.

You might be the only one. I never got on board with this season, very boring at the start and never began to approach the greatness of the first season's Casting seemed lazy outside of the main actors too, it was basically all premium cable tv series actors from shows like True Blood and Dexter.

Car is on empty and he decides to drive to the most remote mountains without any service. That's True Detective v2 for you

LOL, yea. Good season, but a lot of SMH moments. Kitsch getting killed by the one door that Burress just happened to be at was ridiculous. Why didn't Ray just walk the money back to the school and call a cab once he saw the transponder? And how did the Mexicans happen to find Frank? Too much SMH to be truly enjoyable.

This was the only show I've ever watched for 10 episodes and almost turned it off with 20 minutes left in the finale.

I watched this season holding out hope it would improve. For detectives, supposedly, they weren't very bright about key decisions. I didn't like it. Last season was unbelievable. The acting was super. The plot was awesome. And there was a murderer people actually wanted to see caught.

I guess I give it a passing grade but I have zero desire to watch it again. I found myself begin to multitask about 5 minutes into each episode. The best part was Lera Lynn.

The finale was "better" than season 1's finale relative to their respective seasons but it wasn't better overall. Essentially the best of season 2 was still below the worst of season 1.

I liked the story better in Season 1. I thought the ending of Season 2 was better.

I'd rate Season 1 as an A- and Season 2 as a straight B.

I'm with you on this.

The second season was focused more on the characters. The 4 broken people dealing with their emotional baggage. The murder of Len Caspere was a big red herring and not the main subject of this season and I think that is what ****** people off.

If this wasn't called True Detective season 2, and instead called something like Corruption or whatever I think it would have been more accepted by people.

This. It's been said before, the worst thing to happen to True Detective Season 2 was True Detective Season 1.
Season 1 set the bar really, really high.

Season 1 had a creepy almost supernatural feel to it. This season was more grounded in reality. Not as much mystery and it threw me off.

Also, I think the "innocence" of the victim's in season one made for a more sympathetic plot. Caspere, on the other hand, was a d-bag that to some degree, deserved what he got. Harder to get emotionally behind solving the murder, from a viewer perspective.

I really liked this season. But it was definitely way different from season 1. I think the acting was really good, but the case they were working just wasn't as good as last seasons.

I was waiting for there to be a deeper connection to Bezzerides' father and what happened to her as a young girl.

Vince Vaughn, who everyone was worried about, was pretty fantastic as a crime boss, but still maintained his humorous qualities.

I think Taylor Kitsch, despite being the strong silent type, did very well in his role. Seemed like a very tortured soul.

Rachel McAdams was so much grittier than you would have expected going into it.

Colin Farrell also nailed his dirty cop role as well.

I'm excited to see where they go with season 3.

Bump. There's a third season coming. Mahershala Ali (House of Cards, Moonlight, Luke Cage) will be involved. So they're off to a good start.

I'd read the rumors a couple of weeks ago before this confirmation - that's amazing. He'll be fantastic at it. I don't think most people would accuse either Matthew McConaughey or Woody Harrelson usually of quiet intensity, but they both pulled it off spectacularly in season 1. Ali has that quality naturally, so it's a great fit.

I'm down with that. More True Detective is a good thing.

I'm in the minority when it comes to True Detective Season 2. I liked it for what it was. It wasn't as good as the first season, and yes, it was derivative of a bunch of other films/shows, but suspending those thoughts, it was still pretty entertaining. It didn't live up to the hype, but it still had some value.

I didn't hate it, either. If I remembered that it was entirely different from the first season and suspended expectations, it was fine. It was pretty convoluted at points, and I kept getting people and names mixed up, but I thought the acting was decent, and it wasn't terrible.

I had the benefit of watching Season 2 first, so I got to watch it without the weight of expectations. From my standpoint, I thought it was really good. It suffered at times from clunky dialog and I could have done with fewer aerial shots of California freeway, but I didn't have a hard time investing in the characters. But yeah, Season 1 was superior in just about every way. It just set the bar so high that Season 2 never had a chance of living up to that standard. Maybe that's the best thing Season 3 has going for it...it's been what, four or five years since Season 1?

It's kind of like replacing a legendary coach or QB in football. You never want to be the guy who replaces the guy. You want to be the guy who replaces the guy who replaced the guy. More reasonable expectations that way.

Wish I would have noticed this comment 2 years ago.

I would say it's because Louisiana has a creepy, supernatural, evil feel to it.

Place is downright eerie.
