Experience watching coach after coach fail. It is what it is...head football coach graveyard after Earl Bruce.

Yes good old Earle Bruce and his 31-0 pasting of the Ioa Squawkeyes in kinnick, endeared himself to cyclone fans forever.......

I wont ever see another coach win 24 games in 3 years.....I hope you guys get to see that happen though...

Go Cyclones

Academic requirements. He got kids into KSU that we would not accept. We accept losing.

What? Its not excatly difficult to get into ISU. I am betting ISU and KSU have basically the same standards.

Whoops I didn't see Chucks post.

What Cheer, IA
Their admission requirements are the same as ours pretty much. I highly doubt they were ever more stringent.

It was pretty well known back in the day that certain teams allowed partial qualifiers and ISU didn't. Some teams (Nebraska) built their programs on them.

http://www.omaha.com/huskers/blogs/...cle_cd95808c-22b2-11e6-ba44-db372b5df934.html

The Big Eight had no league-wide policy on admission of non-qualifiers or partial qualifiers. The schools made their own decisions. Nebraska’s policy was to accept non-qualifiers and allow them to meet NCAA academic standards while sitting out of competition during their freshman year.

In a World-Herald story published in July 1995, Tom Osborne laid out his position on the subject:

“It's not smart to tell a young man that you can't even come and pay your own way and prove you can make the grade. If he can pass 24 hours in college with a 2.0 grade average, it seems he ought to be given a chance to play. That's quite a sacrifice."

EDIT: I don't know for sure if ISU ever did or did not allow partial qualifiers.

All of you who are already calling CMC a failure need to lighten up. EVERY team goes through adversity from time to time. EVERY coach has situations that they don't handle perfectly from time to time. The important thing is...how do they respond? You need to let it play out through the course of the season. If the wheels fall off and the season goes to crap, then fine, throw your stones towards the end of the season. But let's wait and see if CMC can rally the troops with a respectable performance today and pull off 3 or 4 more wins this season.
I'm not saying you shouldn't have an opinion...just step off the ledge and give CMC (and the team) a chance to respond on the field the next few weeks.

1. I hope that the young man works this out and will be OK. 2. I have no idea if he'll ever play again (for all I know, he'll become the lead singer of a Southern rock band 3. I gave up hope for ISU being a football power around the time Jim Criner was coach and 4. The solution to our fandom woes lies in the season that runs from November through March (+/-):

ISU can’t have nice things.

I skipped a lot of pages, but that’s a summary.

We need to have an emoji button for "Post of the Year Nominee". Every poster could only use it like 3 times per year.

Did not read through this giant downer of a thread, but back to Jacob Park. I don't view it as Campbell lying. He said Park isn't suspended from the team. He isn't suspended, he's taking a leave of absence. I'd imagine that was the official word to the media, but they actually knew what was in the works and until they had details they wouldn't want to say more.

Yep, very logical. If you want to question the staff, point to losing two games we should have won, not this.

Call me over reacting I don't care, but without Park as QB we won't win another game this season.

And 5 wins each year over the likes of Lower Northeast Kansas School of Hair Design and Cosmetology.

Exactly. It wasn't until recently that they scheduled decent non-conf teams. KSU's schedules make Baylor's look tough.

I think Campbell used specific wording to control the narrative a little bit because like you said, he didn't want to jump the gun and do/say anything out of line. I do however, think this is a de facto suspension, basically he would have been suspended had he not taken a leave of absence. In the working world, it's pretty common for an employer to more or less give an ultimatum, get help or face discipline. This seems very similar to that kind of a situation.

I dont think there is anything wrong with how this has been handled, letting him get his stuff together is better than punishing him for whatever personal issues he's dealing with.
