I get what you're saying...but you're a little off on this one. The "story" has been about how cool the Hawkeyes are for turning and waving at the hospital perched directly above their stadium. And it IS a really cool thing for them to do. I've thought so since I first heard about it.I think it would be a nice gesture just this week. Nobody is suggesting making it a tradition. Just that these are Iowa kids. And belI've me I watched plentybof ISU games with my son sitting there and I promise you there are many others. So what's the harm in helping them keep the momentum going and the story in the news, it is a good thing. For many non common and severe disease U of I children's hospital is the only game in town. This isn't the University of Iowa's Hospital, it is our hospital too. We are a state University just like a Iowa and so I think it would be cool for aNY in Iowa to do it but they wern't asked we were. I would love it if they flashed a number we could text during the game to donate automatically or something too. But if you don't want to wave, dont.
As to the rest of it, the hospital serves the greater community around the state and I'm grateful for the excellent care delivered there to members of my circle of family & friends. However, it is part of the University of Iowa. The fact that we are both regents institutions does not make their facilities and staff "ours" any more than they can lay claim to our vet school or any other unit/college that is part of the ISU system.
