If we lost to milwaukee by let's say a last second shot or something of the like. I could then say, yep it is going to take some time to improveand maybe a .500 season. However, we were just owned at home by Milwaukee.

Right now we just need to get a couple of wins on the board.

.500 seems like a pipe dream.

10 wins is an admirable goal at this point.

I’m terms of quality of play, or lack there of, it’s the worst home loss I can remember. But in reality we’re not good enough for it to be as “bad” as some others. We have so little talent and things we’re good at

My God, losing is bad enough as it is, but must we have the Fred fanboy vs the spurned Fred lover argument after every loss!?

Fred's gone. He's never coming back. He doesn't want to be ISUs coach. Move on.

Fred’s very relevant to this year. If you’re not emotionally stable enough to handle that, it’s a you problem

Also someone named Melvin Ejim that blossomed into an absolute stud under Freddy.

Fred, in his first year, had a 4th year PG Diante Garrett who started the previous two years and played over 20 minutes a game as a freshman. He had a 3rd-year Jamie Vanderbeken finally healthy after redshirting what should have been his senior season. He had RS Jr. Scott Christopherson coming off a season where he played 25+ minutes a game hitting 43% from 3. He also brought in Jake Anderson as a RS Senior (If I remember correctly, he played major minutes the previous 3 seasons at his prior school).

Simply put, that team had a wealth of returning minutes (i.e., experience) at the high major level. Let's not forget the scout team that year (Babb, Royce, Chris Allen, Booker); while they didn't play, they could certainly help the team in practicing against good competition. I would argue that the experience around Ejim during his first year is one of the biggest reasons he had such a good freshman campaign (also, his stats dropped in his sophomore year).

Even with that experience, Fred still went 16-16 his first year. The biggest problem Fred had wasn't experience; it was that he didn't have much of a bench since a third the team was sitting out a transfer year.

Diante was playing like 37 minutes a game that year. So many games lost at the end just because everyone was so gassed

I remember playing at a pep band in 2005 vs EA Sports All-Stars. Losing that game (64-57) at home was a gut punch, even as an exhibition. We came back and beat Iowa that season though, and finished 10th/12. Still early. But somehow a loss to Milwaukee doesn't feel as bad as that particular loss in my mind.

Those EA sports teams had a lot of ex-college stars. And I don’t care about exhibitions.

This one was worse in terms of quality of play imo

He was hired in June of 2015. He couldn't get anyone worth a damn that late. So, no, he couldn't have some third year guys ready to go.

His first recruiting class wasn't all that good, so that is hurting him and he'll pay for that. Luckily, his second recruiting class was fairly solid and the third one is excellent.

Yea...JUNE.

Thanks Fred. Hope you're enjoying Chicago...lol.

Having a team like this shows why ISU needs to come close to balance out its classes. Introducing one or 2 players to the like up is different than putting 7 in. It also shows why coaches like to slowly work Freshmen in. No matter how good they are, most of them need time to get used to the college game. If this team stays at it and works hard they will get better. Many of the things they are doing wrong is because of lack of experience on games at this level. There are a lot of teams that end up good that start out slow.

I know we’re already wallowing in negativity, so I hesitate to add to it merely to make a historical observation.

But, hell, here it goes. I consider this observation a micro-catharsis.

That was ISU’s first home-opening loss since 1997, already noted in game recaps. That’s a bummer.

But — even worse! It was the most lopsided point spread in a home-opener since Vanderbilt won at Hilton 105-80 in 1975. (That also was the season ISU finished 3-24. Ugh.)

Hopefully, reverse-karma is now on our side. ;)

OK, I’m over it. Moving on … let’s beat App-State and try to build from there.

This has to be the worst non-conference home loss since one of Greg McD's teams lost to South Dakota State (pretty sure it was SDSU).

As much as I'm enjoying the current football season I do hope that the basketball team can win more games than the football team does.

This loss reminds me of 1997-98 when we lost to Detroit Mercy, lost to TCU by 39 points, and barely beat Coppin State and Alaska-Anchorage. All of those games, except TCU, were at Hilton. It certainly wasn't the prettiest season, but still a lot of fun games (although the loss at home to Iowa by a point was awful).

This team looks totally disconnected. There's no fluidity.

This is all on the coaching staff. It seems very typical of Prohm's ISU teams that by the time the season starts, his teams are like this and it takes awhile to figure out the rotations and who he wants to start. Meanwhile, we don't have a Niang or Morris that can will us into wins while THE PROCESS™ takes place.
