Sounds like a pipe dream on their part, but here's how UCF gets into the Big 12 via ESPN. ESPN says, "Hey Big 12, we will give you this giant pile of extra cash, so each team gets even more if you bring in UCF.

I have to admit, I'm also a bit impressed by how they slipped the ISU dig in there.

If I were the Big12 I'd want to see that pile of cash first. With how things are going there, not sure it exists.

The conference must be a lot better than the media lets on because this is the 2nd article in as many days discussing a school wanting to join.

I could have done without this little footnote. If you want respect, maybe offer some as well.

Iowa State sells all of its third-tier rights to its own digital network, ostensibly because no TV network wants anything from Iowa State. So they technically don’t have a true cable partner.

It's cute because they're operating under the assumption UCF has fans. Big school in a densely populated area, but let's be honest- they are Gator, Nole, or Canes fans first and foremost. No one gives a **** about UCF unless they're running the table. Next year they could easily be 0-12 again.

Is that even an accurate statement? I would imagine that Iowa State could have partnered with FSN Mid-West but the third tier rights are probably more profitable using our current subscription service.

Yeah - they misspelled "Being forward thinking, ISU uses online distribution for its third tier rights"

Just what I was thinking...why do you need a cable partner for 3rd tier in this day and age?

Seems like now would be a good time for the Big 12 to be talking to Fox Sports / FS1 / FS2. Get more content off of those regional networks and onto Fox Sports / FS1 / FS2, and distribute the rest via Internet.

Because networks would be clamoring for UCFs third tier rights if they were on the market.

They probably should use a different picture for the background. A half-empty stadium doesn't scream "WE GOTS EYEBALLS!!!11!" even though they claim it in the article.

If the Big 12 elects to go with a conference network in the future, I feel pretty confident saying that it won't be ESPN. The cable subscription era is over....

Is there an actual account of the revenue Cyclones.TV brings in?

How many people actually watch the games. Seeing some of the TV ratings posted on here....not sure if I want to know

Is the author even safe in assuming that tv rights will be the driver in the Big 12's next big contract? Just because it has been in the past doesn't mean it's going to in the future. I thought that part of the reason the conference opted to stand pat until 2024 was they didn't know what the ideal distribution model is going to look like by then (nobody does). Why expand and get tied into a long term tv deal now?

The conference just evaluated this option last year, and they decided not to expand. Nothing has really changed even with that deal. Just wishful thinking on the part of those institutions.

If the Big IIXII were forward thinking :)biglaugh:), they would already be in talks with Amazon or Google for distributing all of their content.

This. It's easy to be puff-chested when you go undefeated in football.

We'll see what they're like when they go back to suck after Frost left.

I want to say that Cyclones TV brings in just north of 3 million per year. No clue on viewership numbers, I can't recall ever seeing one.
