How do people like asparagus that make it? I prefer either steamed or boiled, that’s it. If anything, slight bit of butter. My wife melts cheese on her’s, I wondered if she has some sconie blood in her. My mom used to make a version of asparagus/cheese soup, kinda like broccoli/cheese, that was fine but still prefer it plain.

Grill it. Stack it on a plate, drop a pat of butter on top, and then plate it two minutes later. Consume with rare/medium-rare New York Strip. Delicious.

For non-academic jobs, I'm toying with deleting my degree from the resume and telling them I've spent the last few years playing video games.
This is something that drove me crazy when hiring. I would be looking at hiring someone who was clearly over qualified and I would get push back - they'll never stick around, etc. I always answered I would rather get an intelligent, hard working person who quits after giving me a year rather than a dumb slouch that I have to fire after taking money from us that they didn't earn for a year.

I love getting all the way to the interviews to hear "you don't want to stay," knowing that there's really no answer to that statement. It's all over, but we're still in the room.

I'm enjoying this time around getting recruiting e-mails from staffing firms who say they saw my resume online and ask me to send a copy. They never make contact again.

And stars be plenty. Just found a tenure-track job at some small school south of Atlanta.
The ad very specifically welcomes all specialties, because the one hired will be teaching survey courses primarily. Cool.

Go to the school's website. It's another "anything but me" position. Thanks for the bait and switch, fellas.

So they basically want someone with a specialty in Asian or Middle Eastern history to teach Western Civ and U.S. history surveys along with an upper-level course in their specialty. That's been really common this year, but those people don't really exist.

Watch yourself, lest I bust out the Iowa-Minnesota jokes that were in vogue back in the 80's (You know...when you had hair).
And in the 90's. That's when I moved up here. And I heard plenty of them.

Prior to meeting me, my wife won a Halloween costume contest dressed as Miss Iowa. Her friends found it pretty ironic that she got engaged to a hot guy from Iowa.*

*note - one word in this paragraph is fabricated. See if you can guess which one.

Must be "ironic". But who was the hot guy from Iowa she was engaged to before she married you?
