This was a thread I started back in 2010. I think I was listening to the web feed live and they started going off.

That pretty much sums it up. I kind of remember Marty taking some pot shots at Larry during his show a few times which basically led up to that tirade. Geoff Conn was Cotlars producer and was assumed he intentionally left the mic hot when Marty stormed in. There was already some bad blood between all them that led up to that moment. Here's an article from when it happened. http://onlinesportsguys.blogspot.com/2009/03/effing-fired-end-in-des-moines.html?m=1

As I recall, Cotler was on the air and Marry stormed in throwing F-bombs all around. Larry and his producer threw a few themselves and didn't cut off the live feed

I though they were on a break, and the producer hit the live switch so everyone could hear Marty be an *******. It backfired on the producer because everyone got fired.

What was the context behind people being near flood waters? Was it street flooding or river?

Seeing the videos going around this morning, it would not surprise me if there were spots where danger was almost unavoidable. Just saw some Facebook posts from a hotel in Urbandale where water was 3' high outside the windows to the pool area (and eventually blew out a window and entered the hotel). That's just crazy amounts of water.

My recollection was that basically there was some event that kxno had a press pass for, which Ken Miller was supposed to use. Miller shows up and Cotlar had already taken it or something. So Marty goes off on Cotlar for being unprofessional by being his unprofessional self.

Sad news to hear, it sounds from all accounts he was genuinely nice guy, and everyone (except Marty Tirrell I guess) seemed to like him. It will be interesting to hear what actually happened for him to have ended up in a life or death situation in the first place.

I had no idea that flooding was that crazy. I spent all of yesterday tubing, so I'm behind on the times.

It was Jeff Kahn producing and there is no way he meant to do that, but accidents happen. That's why you are never supposed to curse, even when you think you are off the air.

It was flash flooding. Most of the 3-10 inches in the metro fell in a very short period of time. Right around when it was starting to get dark and lot of activities in the metro were finishing up. Not super surprising that a lot of people got caught up in it.

It was at Twana and 50th in Des Moines. Very small creek that crosses under Twana in a culvert. 99% Of the time just a trickle as the creek begins only two blocks away out of a pipe just as it crosses under Aurora. I've lived for 29 years two blocks away and water was 4' deep in front of my house. Way worse than in 2010 or any other time.

Tons of heartache around the metro today from the storm.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Help your neighbors if you can.

This is terrible news. Public service announcement: never try to drive through flooded streets- turn around don't drown!
