Not saying this is what we should have done.
A&T's football game at East Carolina postponed until 3:30 p.m. Sunday
https://www.greensboro.com/sports/n...cle_d1a96bbb-dda1-5b38-a9b4-198c327aecbd.html
Read this part of the article?

But there were not enough hotel rooms for the team in Greenville on Saturday night, so ECU was searching Raleigh and Fayetteville to find rooms for the Aggies after the postponement.

I'm guessing there are about 4 hotels in DSM with the necessary accommodations for a CFB team. Teams aren't just staying in a Super 8. I'm guessing Labor Day weekend they're all doing a smidge of business.

This is just unbelievable to me that there are people out there like this.

If only you were our AD instead of JP, then we could have easily got this game in and everyone would have been thrilled.

This is the same fanbase that was convinced we were moving a KSU game from Ames to Manhatten because of the weather forecast. Not to mention the forecast that day was terrible and there was little to no rain the entire game.

As others seem to not get this isn’t something you do Friday or Saturday. It is something you plan for early in the week like finding possible hotel accommodations for SDSU on Saturday. You work with all staff on the potential of an earlier start. Personally I think Friday or early Saturday they should have moved it up to 5 or 6. That doesn’t mean it is neccessarily the only or right solution. The game was likely going to go to 10:30 or so anyway so you want to give cushion and to let people leave before the storm. The main issue is there doesn’t seem to have been any planning for the possibility of the storms affecting the game.

The problem was it was to short well before they called it. As soon as that second cell formed it wasn’t possible. They still took 30 minutes to an hour to call it.

The forecast on Friday afternoon when I looked said rain in the morning and afternoon and clear for the game.

Stop posting. You don't have a clue what the hell you're talking about. Start looking for hotel accommodations early in the week? Do you think people on a holiday weekend just wait until the day of to book hotel rooms? And do you think the hotel is going to block off rooms for you when something like this has literally never happened in the history of Iowa State Football?

Maybe for the Oklahoma game we should have a contingency plan for an alien invasion. I mean, yeah it's never happened but they should probably be prepared.

You still make zero sense. You think hotels are going to hold 75 rooms because a game might get cancelled? It literally hasn’t happened in 50 freaking years.

There was no way for JP to win in this situation, just admit it.

For instance, is he supposed to tell SDSU on Thursday that they need to find hotel accommodations for another night in case of bad weather? How would SDSU even be able to do this at that point? You think the hotel would really save 50 rooms for another night, just in case SDSU needed them?

Or how about security workers, concession workers, ticket takers, etc, etc, etc. These are human beings that might have other plans during the day, and if the game time is moved up they would no longer be able to work.

I can't believe we have to explain all this in detail for people to understand just a handful of issues you'd have to deal with logistically as the AD.

We just spent 400,000-500,000 dollars for nothing we could have paid for the hotel even if not used. There isn’t a good solution but last night proved to be without any contingency plans. You guys are missing the point that yeah there isn’t a great solution but you have to have some sort of plan in place. Maybe you have less concession workers or various other issues. It isn’t good and I can’t sit and say what solution is the best one. You guys are acting like the current situation isn’t without it’s own issues. Having a plan in place and having issues is one thing. What appears to be having no contingency plan in place and having issues is not acceptable.

It isn’t the mess that is the issue it is the lack of having any sort of plan that is the issue.

If we booked a hotel and it burned down before we could stay at it I would expect a refund. Don't understand the liquor store analogy whatsoever. If you buy tickets to a baseball game and it rains out (an act of God) you get the option to go to another game. If you buy tickets for example to an NBA playoff game and it doesn't take place you get credit for a future game. Not sure why football fans don't expect the same kind of policies.

For MANY of us - the act of buying tickets dovetails with our many acts of supporting Cyclones athletics through donations, pledges, tickets purchase, merchandise purchases, etc... so why not consider it part of your overall support for the program?

UNLESS you don't necessarily support the program but were only going to a football game for nothing more than leisure purposes - that would make sense and I would seek a refund myself.

I think the frustrating and legitimate issue with yesterday is the lack of contingencies. There weren’t definitive weather forecasts or anything but we knew about the threat in plenty of time. With that there should have been contingency plans created such as the possibility of moving the game earlier or to Sunday. You would hope to get everything off as planned but you have planned for the worst case scenario.

I think another big legitimate criticism is the lack of decision making last night. We all knew the storm from Nebraska was coming. If we weren’t going to play after the first round went through we weren’t going to get anything in. Why did it take so long to make the decision.

What contingency were you looking for for a situation that hadn't happened at ISU since the mid-1960s? Most of us weren't even alive the last time this happened at ISU. Hell - my dad himself was only 10 years old.

Sorry (not sorry) to burst your bubble, but you don't make contingency plans for things that happen once every 50 years.

The back-up plan has always been in place. You wait out the weather as long as you can then you cancel. That's the plan. There doesn't need to be anything else.

No, no it isn't. This has literally never happened before here. Ever. Your lack of real world thinking is astounding. Do you actually understand the amount of things that go into planning a college football game? Do you understand how volatile weather can be? A contingency plan is a waste of time for all parties involved.

I wish that they could have looked at the forecast and moved the game up 2 hrs. Not sure of the logistics on that but they would have gotten 3 quarters in

Super easy - just do FB posts and say - hey to all you 60,000 - 65,000 folks involved directly and indirectly in this game - why don't ya'll just pop in 2 hours early? THANKs and have a sun shiny day!!

Waste of money, too. You've got to pay people to do that plan that could be doing something else. Paying for hotel rooms that no one likely needs, food that probably isn't used, and whatever else factors in.

It's nice to think that there can be plans for every occasion, but nothing actually works that way.

Yeah. I want ISU and JP wasting their time and resources planning for a million “ what if’s” for a twice a century event. JFC some of you people are just unbelievable.
