The offense has zero identity

Noland got sacked once. The line isn’t good, but it’s becoming an excuse too.

Sacks aren't always a good stat to use. He only got sacked once, but the run blocking most of the day was porous. When you are continually getting blown up in the back field, something isn't working with the big boys. They can, and hopefully will, improve but today was not a great day for them.

It has an identity- don’t get in the way of defense and ST. With our defense and ST, we tend to play it safe and count on DM or Butler making enough plays.

The OL needs improvement, but plays are being blown up by too many defenders for it all be on them. Imo we’re content going 5 or 6 on 7 or 8, and hope DM makes up the difference to get positive yards.

I am never one to panic, I get told I’m actually to even keeled but the last three weeks leaves a lot to be desired offensively no matter how you sugar coat it.

First, LOL.

Second, The hardest part of building a program is the offensive line. He didn’t inherit a bunch of talent there. Iowa being an o line university doesn’t help the cause either.

I like the bodies in the program. They need to be coached up. But development doesn’t happen overnight. When this unit is older, the next running backs will appreciate the job the coaches have done.

Run blocking sucked last year too, but we kept the QB upright

When plays are continually getting blown up by multiple players from every level, it’s not just the fault of the OL.

Think of it this way, DM’s good enough to beat a defender or two of a well-executed defense that’s forced to stay honest and defend the entire field. He’s good enough to make up for a guy coming free from a blown block. He is good enough to get to the second level himself regardless of push by the OL.

But DM is often getting gang tackled because we’re incredibly easy to defend.

I am in the camp that hopes this is Campbell keeping it close to the vest. Iowa was ugly and understandably so, but going from a good offensive game against OU to a conservative, offense with the game still in the balance doesn't make sense to me. Win the game rather than getting young guys reps or just running up the middle. Get up 2-3 scores before bleeding the clock.

CMC trust the defense. He went vanilla again. Olson was in his first start on the line, so perhaps that has something to do with it. Seems our best run option is a zone sweep with DM choosing when to cut back or if he can turn the corner. Disappointed that we don't have a good screen pass to slow down the aggressive defense. When will Noland be told to keep the ball on the zone read? Defensive end on left side was jumping inside on every inside read, and Noland needs to keep it occasionally to keep them honest.
