The offense has zero identity

Good grief. First thing I heard as the games started was that Mueller was out. He was replaced by a walk-on former DL who is about five inches shorter and thirty pounds lighter.

Did you guys somehow expect the OL and offense to take another step forward today? Seriously?

As far as Zeb, he completed what, 76% of his passes? Were you going for 100%? It’s his third start!

Sheesh. Step away from the cliff, folks!

talking about the line winning their battles and not getting pushed back into DM's and Zeb's lap
Why didn't our OL drive Akron downfield on pass plays? Do you think our run plays are just 5 Oklahoma drills?

There are likely only a handful of college football teams that would have dominated Akron's DL to the degree you're expecting with the game plan we had today. Meanwhile, we started a walkon that's new to the OL. The amount of push typically achieved by even good OL's is exaggerated here, and certainly not one you'll see from a walkon and a freshman. I'm more concerned to as why there is always so many defenders able to go directly to DM without regard, and why we don't see the large void in the field that causes. Hopefully we're saving this for another time.

Our OL needs improvement, but there's a reason why our success on offense doesn't correlate well to the opposition's talent level.

First, LOL.

Second, The hardest part of building a program is the offensive line. He didn’t inherit a bunch of talent there. Iowa being an o line university doesn’t help the cause either.

I like the bodies in the program. They need to be coached up. But development doesn’t happen overnight. When this unit is older, the next running backs will appreciate the job the coaches have done.

When we had no D Line that was the hardest part group to build. It is Iowa, O Like should be the easiest group to recruit regardless of UofI.

That time and place was Akron, the 2nd worst opponent we'll face.
Maybe CMC isn't as shell-shocked as you. We clearly had enough advantages to grind out a win without showing much and working on needed depth.

Shooting your load every game isn't necessarily putting your best foot forward. Akron is definitely a game you don't score as many as possible at all costs. Keep it close to the vest, get backups some time, get your #2 QB some key snaps before conference play starts, and get a comfortable win.

You seem to forget that we still have Baylor, Kansas, and perhaps even including K-State on the schedule. Akron is better than these three schools any likely any of the three they've beaten.

Jesus, here we go. The usual suspects already in a panic.

All that’s left is dudes cliff jump

Prolly never win another game ever. I watched the game then read the posts. Someone was posting about a completely different game than I watched. :)

BTW - I thought we outplayed them beginning to end and it was never in doubt who the team in control was.

Or, folks can be concerned about what they saw. Usually it is somewhere in the middle. 17-13 game when it didn't appear we were interested in pushing the ball down to score is not what I would call dominant.

It’s what we did when we had Todd Blythe. One on one coverage we would throw it up and he would go get it.
That coach isn’t the head coach anymore. Just an FYI.

That's arguable, and we play none of those teams before November. Again, Akron was the time and place to work on depth while revealing as little as possible.

Sorry dude, I'm just not impressed with how complicated and nuanced you are trying to make this. You're not convincing me of anything. That was not a good performance today.

I am not sure what you found nuanced or complicated.

Okay, I'll make it simple for you. Does Akron have a better, more physical defensive linemen than OU? Does Memphis have as good of Dline as Iowa?

Nope. You can't ignore that play-calling and game plan matter, not to mention starting a walkon. Akron is in the MAC, not D3, there are a lot of OLines that would not have the push you desire.

I wouldn’t read too much into a non-conference game. Still working out some kinks and Campbell doesn’t want to show his hand too much with the stretch coming up.

I don’t believe it is a coincidence that we look vanilla as all hell in two non conference games and fairly dynamic in our Big 12 match up.

I've never been in camp Zeb, but I felt like a lot of his passes weren't quite in the right spot. No one was hit in stride; receivers had to come back or jump high.

Another few games will probably help that a lot :)
