The offense has zero identity

Okay, I'll make it simple for you. Does Akron have a better, more physical defensive linemen than OU? Does Memphis have as good of Dline as Iowa?

Nope. You can't ignore that play-calling and game plan matter, not to mention starting a walkon. Akron is in the MAC, not D3, there are a lot of OLines that would not have the push you desire.

Sorry. Can't even follow what point you're trying to prove. Lack of a consistent run game is limiting this team. It hurt last week big time against OU and will continue to hurt against conference foes. Needs to get fixed, but we might be a year away from doing that.

Good grief. First thing I heard as the games started was that Mueller was out. He was replaced by a walk-on former DL who is about five inches shorter and thirty pounds lighter.

Did you guys somehow expect the OL and offense to take another step forward today? Seriously?

As far as Zeb, he completed what, 76% of his passes? Were you going for 100%? It’s his third start!

Sheesh. Step away from the cliff, folks!
We have the best qb situation I have ever seen at Iowa State. A lot of quality and depth. Our offense is set at every position group except our OL. I’m slightly afraid how much our OL is going to hold us back this year. When you don’t take into account our OL, we really have a great team all around.

Sorry dude, I'm just not impressed with how complicated and nuanced you are trying to make this. You're not convincing me of anything. That was not a good performance today.

If it wasn’t complicated and nuanced one of us could coach it.

I've never been in camp Zeb, but I felt like a lot of his passes weren't quite in the right spot. No one was hit in stride; receivers had to come back or jump high.

Another few games will probably help that a lot :)
Today he was slightly off at times. Against OU I thought he was money. He looked great the times he came in last year. He isn’t a problem at all. I think he’s actually very good. Our OL is making it hard for him and Kempt.

Last year we had the 7th best offense in the big 12. This year we are clearly worse. Expecting your defense to bail you out every week because you don’t know how to run an offense is unacceptable. If Heacock leaves us we are right back to 3-9. We need an experienced OC . Throwing 3 yard passes when you need an 8 yard pickup gives you an exaggerated completion percentage.

A few of those 4 yard passes on 3rd down when we needed 8 yards, were in areas of the field where punting does not gain much and we don't trust our kicker outside of 35 yards. So if going for it on 4th down anyway, picking up half the needed yardage is better than forcing and possible turn over. Because 4th and 4 is a run/pass down and 4 and 8 is a pass only down. So though I wish we would have had openings to get the first down on 3rd down, it is better to get what you can. I wish we had a kicker we trusted from 45 in, but apparently we do not, as a walk-on is better than our two scholarship kickers at this point. At some point, we will need a 45 yard FG at end of half or game, and who knows who will be kicking it.

Something was a little off today, but I left thinking Akron was a little better than I was giving them credit for going in. Zeb didn't look as sharp as he did against OU (but he did well overall), and the O-line needs to improve. Still felt like we were in control - capitalize on a few chances that we whiffed on and we win going away.

Either way, it's a much needed win and a good game to build off of.

I forgot Mueller was out...is he expected back soon? It was just an odd game in a lot of ways...Not having Mueller and especially Chase Allen didnt help. Not once did we throw to the TE and previous weeks that was there.

Defensively not much is gonna change next week bc TCU’s QB can run...wonderful. Akron racked up 400 yards on the road vs NW..today..they had what 200?

We had uncharacteristic penalties...turnovers...and we won by 13 and had we played our A game probably win that game by 25-30.

Akron will win the MAC...Yea it’s the MAC but they are a solid defensive team.

We are playing a ton of new players...Vance..Hummel...Azuna...Leo...etc...We have a lot more depth than we’ve ever had.

I thought J lang looked solid in reserve...He’s short but built and shifty.

Lastly...It is clear we have talent at the RB position..for the life of me i dont get why we dont come out in a 2 back set on occasion..THere is so much u can do with 2 backs in the backfield and it keeps the LB’s honest.

Sacks aren't always a good stat to use. He only got sacked once, but the run blocking most of the day was porous. When you are continually getting blown up in the back field, something isn't working with the big boys. They can, and hopefully will, improve but today was not a great day for them.

My point was that poor run blocking isn’t an excuse to not do a better job of calling pass plays. The pass protection wasn’t that bad.

Once you put two guys 7 yards back you lose the chess match. It just gives the defense more time to cover them.

Akron had 8 starters, all JRs and SRs, back on defense, and it showed today. Thought they were very solid in all phases. Having said that, the OL just has to get better. The tackles both completely whiffed several times today. Number 9 for TCU was in the backfield more than DM.

Agree on the penalties. Had a couple really tick tack ones that normally don't get called. PI on Jones was really iffy, the block in the back was too. Just stuff that doesn't usually get called.

Muller and Allen being out didn't help today.

You guys need to listen to Chris's call in show after games. Chris said people need to get used to us being more like KSU or Iowa (power running) on offense rather than WV or Okie (high flying). Campbell wants that but we aren't there yet, and because of this yeah the offense is still a work in progress.

What CW says doesn’t mean much. I love him but he’s not a good analyst.

You also gain a lead blocker, and a second threat to run. Play action, with misdirection, things that create easy angles for which to block. I'm surprised we aren't seeing it.
