Rose cannot redshirt. McDonald can play in 1 more game. I would like to see him redshirt because it's probably not worth wasting it on the small amount of reps he's getting, and we have solid depth at DE. Maybe hold him out until later in the season in case someone gets hurt. I would really like to see some freshmen have a game left when we play Incarnate Word.

There is a thread on Purdy and redshirting already so I'll leave that one alone.

Anthony Johnson has reached the limit. If I'm not mistaken, I think he has only played on special teams.

Who will we see going forward? Maybe shut down Anthony Johnson and let another freshman take his spot on ST? I expect to see Re-al Mitchell, Isaiah Lee, Trevor Downing and Joey Ramos at some point. None of the WR's have seen the field yet, which I think is probably a good thing as far as depth is concerned.

Any updates on the 4 freshmen that were suspended during fall camp?

I might be mistaken, but didn’t Anthony Johnson played some nickle back against TCU? I thought he was involved in the targeting-non-targeting play?

Thanks for compiling this list.

Anthony Johnson played a defensive series or two against Akron or OU, can't remember which. Just remember double checking to make sure I was seeing 26 and not 25.

Will McDonald is going to be a VERY tough call for the staff.

I'm sure they would love to RS him, but he's a stud and can help us. IMO, he will end up being one of the better DE's to ever wear a Cyclone uniform before he leaves.

Right now I'm hoping that Rose, Anthony Johnson, and Purdy will be the only ones to burn their RS this year, but as I said, McDonald will be very tough to sit.

I didn't realize Vaughn had already played in 2 games either. There's no reason whatsoever to burn a kid's RS just playing him on special teams, unless he's a kicker or punter of course.

I just checked the Participation Report. Scates was not on it.

Also curious whether the four are back at practice. I wouldn’t have figured the suspension to be more than a game.

No, Scates hasn't played yet. I wasn't aware that Anthony Johnson had played in the secondary. I'll edit the original post. So I would guess that he won't be redshirting. McDonald, I would redshirt him unless he's gonna get a meaningful amount of reps. Not worth burning a RS for a couple snaps a game.

Agreed. I would rather see McDonald redshirt, but either way is fine. He definitely needs to bulk up in the off season. Get him up to around 230 next year then add 10 lbs of muscle each year after that and he will be unstoppable.

Also worth noting is that Keontae Jones has only played in a game or two so he will likely redshirt this year.
