Where would he go?

He seems to be the type of guy that builds a program. Not the type that would be interested in taking over someone else's established success.

Plus he's a midwest guy so moving to the coast or down south would be a huge change for him and his family.

I suppose anything is possible with time and as we age our priorities change.
However, I don't see a Power 5 program in the midwest that is more attractive than what we have to offer him in Ames with the current ISU fanbase. He's just getting started here in my opinion.

Wherever I go, there I am.
I mean, I don’t personally think he’s going anywhere for a while, but if he does, then he does. It’s just funny seeing people using the EXACT same reasons they used to think Hoiberg was staying and using them for Campbell.

My personal favorite used for both is “why go to a blue blood where you’re just another name when you could build something special here?!”

I wonder if other low to mid-level programs fans are the same way.
Yes, except for Nebraska. Honestly, they're not for everyone.

As a hawk fan, I do think Campbell is the perfect fit for ISU. The only team(s) to worry about with him leaving for would be OSU or ND IMO. IF Urban does bail this year it would cause me to worry. Going home would be easy for him to consider. Does the wife want to raise the family in Ohio? what is his relationship with his family and are they all in Ohio?

That is what most hawk fans see as Campbell leaving. He wont go anywhere else IMO.

Am I worried about ISU? no, I am happy for them and their success. I am a rare Iowa fan in that light I guess. I do not think they are going to launch up to Wisconsin status and dominate Iowa, I think it will be a competitive series as long as Campbell is there.

This is not accurate. Most Hawk fans think he will leave for most P5 programs.

I seriously hate threads like this.

1. Every coach says they are trying to build something long term.
2. Every coach would leave for the right opportunity.
3. We will be good when Campbell is here regardless of if Purdy is here or not, because Campbell is a good coach.

Awesome insight. Thanks for contributing to the discussion.

I'd be less worried about a NCAA job and more about a NFL gig. This NFL "insider" thinks the Browns should go after him. He also gets a nice dig in at Ferentz later in the thread.

I'm getting pretty tired of these dimwitted statements like this "Doing more with less". File it in with every article that refers to ISU as "plucky." Vs. Okla freaking homa Butler was the best player, certainly best looking NFL prospect on the field. Montgomery, Butler, Eisworth and Bailey were men amongst boys against what many considered a talented WVU team. Too many idiots go to the Al Davis school of talent evaluation. I'd say last year ISU won plenty of games with a talent disadvantage. I don't really see that this year. Does this staff get a lot out of it's talent, definitely. But only three weeks ago our offense was a steaming pile of crap with two NFL skill players in Butler and Montgomery.

The old narrative of "'insert Big XII opponent' has a clear talent advantage, but ISU is going to minimize possessions, not turn the ball over or beat itself with penalties to give themselves a shot in the 4th quarter" needs to die when it comes to most teams on our schedule not named Oklahoma or Texas.

Outside of OL, is there a position group from Iowa, TCU, Oklahoma St., WVU, Texas Tech anyone saw as having a big talent advantage vs. ISU?

Hanging out with hok friends in an easy schedule cycle for them is unbearable.

Can you tell me the last time the Hawks weren’t in an easy schedule cycle? They start each conference season with 5 gimmes 2-3 toss ups and 1 tough one.

I just got in my time machine and went into the future. Turns out CMC ends up winning a total of 28 Straight National Championships here. He never leaves. The NCAA deems College Football is no longer fun or fair for anyone else and college football is discontinued at all levels. Leaving the Be All and End All Forever National Champions of the Sport of College Football - you guessed it, Iowa State!

As long as JP takes care of Campbell and his staff he's staying. CMC wants to be the guy that defines a program's success. The true test will be when we need to replace coaches will JP OK the contracts needed to give CMC his first choice?

Ohio State or the Cleveland Browns... Maybe Auburn.

All most of us have to go off of is what Coach Campbell has said publicly. Most of that has been, "we're just getting started on where we want to be." He has given us no reason not to believe him. So I think I'll enjoy the ride! Great time to be a Cyclone!

Edit. Most of the Hoks around my area know what Campbell has cooking in Ames, and are scared. They would love for him to move on. They're also fearful that their next coach is baby Ferentz.

One rule Cyclone fans should work by is that we truly have no idea what it takes to keep a coach.

Sure we do. We kep Danny Mac and we kept CPR. Unfortunately, we had to let those guys go because they plateaued much sooner than expected. The common opinion that Iowa State is a stepping stone job is prtty off base in my opnion. Sure, we lost a couple really good ones in the 70's but other than the CHiz we have eventually had to fire every coach Iowe State has had in my lifetime.

I don't see CMC in the SEC. He isn't sleazy enough to get caught up into the shadiness of that conference.
