Ahhh, the Iowa State fan way of thinking Texas's defense is all of the sudden good.

The Texas Defense had a very good game last night. They were physical, and fast, did a great job on Purdy. It may be an outlier, but teams don’t play at the same level every game.

They had a good game plan, too. So, maybe we could have adjusted or had a better game plan, but give them some credit.

"Worst loss in history?"

No, unless you're like 10 years old and don't know the history of ISU football or can't remember beyond 2 years.

Let's see here...loss margins

1997 vs. Nebraska: 63 points
2013 vs. Baylor: 63 points
1995 vs. Nebraska: 59 points
1985 vs. Iowa: 54 points
2007 vs. Texas: 53 points
2010 vs. Oklahoma: 52 points
2014 vs. TCU: 52 points
1975 vs. Nebraska: 52 points
1967 vs. Texas Tech: 52 points
1956 vs. Colorado: 52 points
1955 vs. Oklahoma: 52 points
2002 vs. K-State: 51 points
1970 vs. Colorado: 51 points
1985 vs. Nebraska: 49 points
1953 vs. Oklahoma: 47 points
2002 vs. Oklahoma: 46 points
2003 vs. Oklahoma: 46 points
2000 vs. K-State: 46 points
1997 vs. Wyoming: 46 points
2002 vs. K-State: 45 points
1998 vs. K-State: 45 points
1985 vs. Oklahoma: 45 points
1984 vs. Nebraska: 44 points
1965 vs. Nebraska: 44 points
1956 vs. Oklahoma: 44 points
1997 vs. Iowa: 43 points
1983 vs. Nebraska: 43 points
1952 vs. Kansas: 43 points
1995 vs. K-State: 42 points
1991 vs. Kansas: 41 points
1983 vs. Iowa: 41 points
1962 vs. Oklahoma: 41 points
1952 vs. Oklahoma: 41 points
1955 vs. Illinois: 40 points
1955 vs. Colorado: 40 points
1954 vs. Oklahoma: 40 points

But yes, let's talk about how a 14 point loss and giving up 24 points is magically the "worst loss in history" for ISU football..

But were good over the last month? What happened to everyone expecting a high scoring game?
Vegas Knows. It opened at 51 and immediately got bet down to 46. This tells you the difference between the general public and those that understand the ups and downs of sports. We all saw a bad TX d over last month and assumed Purdy would light them up. Sharps in Vegas probably figured TX wouldn't be that bad forever, BIG!2 berth on line, Sr night at home, etc. The score isn't surprising, but the execution was for this ISU team.

I would also throw the Baylor loss in 2005 (? Not sure on the year and too lazy to look it up). They were Terrible then and it ultimately cost us a shot at the championship. Then the Missou loss at home for a chance at the title was also horrible.

Good lord, just talking about this stuff is making me even more dipressed.

Those are the two games I immediately thought of too. And both were at home. Missou game came down to a 19 yard field goal, which the most accurate kicker in Iowa State history missed...

Those games, and the Drake loss. You youngsters should be thankful you never saw that and don't have to live your lives with that memory...

My other one is a 77-14 beatdown from kNebraska. It was 14-0 within the first 20 seconds or so, and 63-7 at half. Danny Mac was all happy about how good we played in second half. Yeah, against their walkon farm boys from the panhandle.

So why do you thinking losing to the number 15 team on the road is so unacceptable?

We played a bad game. There appeared to be game plan problem and we are fighting a ton of injuries. Not to mention, we had won 5 straight which is fairly unusual in college football.

Newsflash, sometimes you lose games. West Virginia lost to Oklahoma State for ***** sake. Syracuse got blown out.

There's no reason for any reasonable or intelligent fan to come to the conclusion that suddenly we are a bad football team.

I would say yes. Just the fact we wanted to win so bad and it meant more than so many other games

I'd put it in the top 5 of opportunities lost. But the game loss wasn't bad. Texas is a good team and we got beat. This wasn't losing to a bad Kansas team to win the Big12 north years ago.

Others in that top 5 opportunities:
Big12 north clinching losses (twice)
Florida State in KC
2002 loss to OU

Worst loss in history? Not even the worst loss of 2018. Remember when we scored 13 points against a pathetic TCU team?

I'm not sure they were quite that pathetic when we played them, but point taken.

It’s not about what they beat us by. Shoot we knew we were going to lose by 60 back then.

This game is a lot like the Seneca Wallace team going down to Oklahoma, ranked 9th, and getting destroyed by OU. We thought we had a chance for greatness and we lost convincingly. So yeah I was let down on this game probably more than any game I can remember
