I wondered if he lost his bearings for a second and didn't realize he was in...their QB kept accelerating all the way in and wasn't really slowed up when he knocked him out.

Are you joking? I watched the replay several times and not only had the QB slowed down, he had dropped the football on the ground 2 or 3 steps before LJ hit him.

This play is way overblown in my opinion. Is it any worse than a late hit on QB in the pocket? Is it any worse than a late hit on the punter? Is it any worse than a late hit on a player going out of bounds? I don't think so.

I think what everyone is so fired up about is that it was the QB (which I think is protected way to much by officials already) and that it was a great hit. LJ knows how to hit. He's done it a few times already. This was 1 second to late. Very bad judgement but not the end of the world.

How are you all going to feel about him when he does this to a receiver in the middle of the field? Get off his back. It was a very stupid mistake and IMO not any worse than any other PF we collected today.

Yes, it is worse. You don't get ejected from a game for a late hit on a QB or a punter.

And I was mad when he got a PF last week against a receiver in the middle of the field. It cost us momentum, gave Iowa a first down, and that drive resulted in a touchdown.

He likes to hit. That's great. He needs to tackle. That's better.

I would have believed this after the South Dakota State game. I have a lot of doubt now we have played 4 games and have accumulated by my count 13 personal fouls. This has to be some kind of record. And LJ has committed at least 3 of these. He is clearly not ready to play as a freshman -- athletically yes, mentally no. I would like to see him suspended for the rest of the season. But I think he'll be back as soon as the NCAA allows, and I expect to see the same crap out of him in the future.

Suspended for the rest of the season? that makes no sense. What about players that hit a player out of bounds, its the same thing, what about them?

Well, he did collect 2 of them on the same drive. Looking at these as isolated incidents certainly does lessen the impact - yet in LJs case, he's developing a trend.

I'm not sure what type of PF penalty is the worst. But hitting a guy in the end zone after he has clearly scored certainly has to rank right up there. But it's the one before than which hurt us the most.

Yeah good call, lets suspend our best d-back for the season for a late hit...better yet, kick him off the team completely like some people would like to see....

I definitely don't like the trend either. And I am looking at it from the perspective of one play. With the trend (and slow motion) it looks really bad. But live, I didn't think anything of it. It's the type of play that probably happens 10 times or more every weekend. I'm just not getting all fired up about it.

But like you said, the trend is definitely very disconcerting.

I keep reading this "it's just aggressive play" line. Can someone point out to me what was aggressive about either PF penalty LJ committed tonight.

I'm simply not seeing it.

Last week, I did. Tonight - absolutely no frickin' way.

If this is the aggressive play we're to continue expecting from this team - send it back - I don't want to become the CFB version of the old Raiders.

If our best defensive back gives up 60 yards in personal fouls every 4 games, God help us.

15 a game?? As bad as it hurts, I'd take that over giving up deep passes like the 25 yard game winner in OT without him in the game...would you really rather have him out all season???

I'm still having a very hard time trying to understand why 10 people out of pretty much 100 that have voted think that he should be kicked off the team. I mean, Really? It's a few personal fouls, its not like he got arrested or did something like that. WOW! i just dont get it.

Just got back from the game. I will tell you - that was a horrible display. Embarrassing. The first personal foul happened right in front of us - Chizik was chewing on LJ after the play. Then, the VERY next play he is in, the late hit on the QB. I'm glad he's got fire and everything, but he isn't learning. I personally say kick him.

Did anyone read Chiziks lips on his chat with Colin Franklin?.... I think he will handle it. Trust in the man.

and we are putting all of this on LJ, we have had a mass of personal fouls throughout the season, all equally stupid. and in my opinion, all equally emotion fed.

No one is putting this all on him! He has the most PF penalties and is the only one to have gotten ejected. Guys screw up, some of them big time as LJ did tonight. Really difficult to defend them, but it's noble you keep trying.

I hear ya, it's not like he plays for EIU and actually did something illegal off the field.

If Angie is talking about booting a guy, that says something.

I don't agree with that stance, but this is nothing to be taken lightly - at all. I wish more eyes would open to that, rather than passing it off to youthful aggressiveness. I've watched countless of aggressive teams play clean football and do quite well at it.

Not only are we committing these dumb penalties that are supposedly helpful at times - we're still not very good - and the penalties are killing us.
