Embarrassing game for ISU today, but hats off to Drake, a program I grew up close to being my Dad's alma mater. Happy for Drake. Concerned for ISU, though, because the near historic loss to an FCS non-scholarship program could lift WVU into a better bowl over ISU since both are tied 3rd in Big 12... If Oklahoma hangs on for the W with what looks like a relatively strong D performance today in Big 12 championship I think there's a good chance Sooners get into CFP playoffs, which puts TX in Sugar, and either WVU/ISU in the Alamo.

A lot remains to be seen and of course I have rarely hoped to be wrong so bad! If today cost us the Alamo bowl, though, I can only imagine Campbell and Pollard might regret scheduling today's game more than they do now... Or maybe not... maybe they and many others feal the revival of the in-state rivalry was worth it, and in the long run who knows...

We will if Campbell wants it, you not wanting it won’t change that.

To the people disagreeing with this: are you disagreeing with the point that we will go to artificial surface if Campbell wants it or that Campbell will want it? Because if it is the former...smh.

After today, go ahead and shitcan Jeff Myers. He was put in a tough spot based on the timing of Manning's departure but we can go ahead and find a real OL coach.

Congrats to our guys for not being able to block guys who are just barely better than the guy in Section F Row 16 Seat 8.
And fire JOE HOUSTON | SPECIAL TEAMS.

1896 was a blur of a year ;) also, like I said I swear they said that but I must've misheard. I didn't grow up an ISU fan so not super familiar with anything pre 2010
The field was native prairie with a mix of forbs and grasses such as big blue stem, it held up well under cold wet conditions.

QBs should never wear gloves. Do we still wear cleats with interchangeable spikes? Feel like we have had a hard time cutting all year. Also I dont think the grass has ever been as abused as it has this year. Hopefully they get it fixed for next year

Our OL was not able to get any push against Drake, again Drake!!!, even when we were about to lose, that has nothing to do with taking the game seriously.

We are missing talent in the OL, you are not going to go to a BIG 12 Championship without an experienced and talented OL. I have faith CMC will get the OL there at some point.

Not that I'm excusing it or anything, but our OL has been pretty bad most of the year. They should have been better, but it's not like they were good all year and then magically couldn't do anything today.

If you played this game 10 times, there's no way that more than once (or maybe twice - i'll give Drake some credit) it's not a bigger win for ISU. They were just not prepared at all and thought it would be an easy win. The field conditions did not help it, but they should have been able to overcome that easily. Again, this is almost always how upsets happen whether it's amateur or professional sports and just shows how unprepared they were.

Also funny is that I remember in the very beginning of the game, or even before the game began, Sage Rosenfels basically said that the field conditions would take away the athletic advantage for ISU and make it more even. He was dead on.

If I had to guess, we have tried to run up the middle probably 300 times this season. I can think of 1 play, Sheldon Croney's touchdown, where it actually opened up for a clear run. Some of our best runs this year were called to go up the middle but Montgomery saw nowhere to run and so just burst to the outside. Even against Drake we could not run three times up the middle and get a first down. Does anyone understand our insistence on that being our most-used, primary play? I do not claim to be a football genius but I am thoroughly perplexed by all the seemingly wasted downs running into a brick wall. Am I wrong?

From the AP writeup:

"It's hard to believe Iowa State is one of the 25 best teams in America after this debacle."

Yikes.

Hot take alert. You've got a season's worth of evidence vs. one game. We're fine.

SIAP, but where were the officials from today? Big 12 or somewhere else? Didn't recognize the head ref.

On the play were we had a false start on an extra point, and then Assalley missed the kick, the ball was spotted at the 9 1/2 (nearly the 10).

Since when does 3 + 5 = 9.5???

May not have made a difference as it was a bad kick, but still.

Are people actually making the surface/weather/cleats the excuse? That's Hokdom.

Drake's passing game looked just fine as did their tackling so that wasn't it.
