SIAP, but where were the officials from today? Big 12 or somewhere else? Didn't recognize the head ref.

On the play were we had a false start on an extra point, and then Assalley missed the kick, the ball was spotted at the 9 1/2 (nearly the 10).

Since when does 3 + 5 = 9.5???

May not have made a difference as it was a bad kick, but still.
It was explained on the radio broadcast. Apparently on the initial PAT we elected to snap the ball from the 4 yd line (had no idea you could do that) to supposedly give a better spot footing-wise to kick from. So the penalty was enforced from that spot, moving the re-try back 5 yds from the previous LOS.

Drake's QB looked way too comfortable out there. I believe we only had 2 sacks, but they were both big ones. Not sure why we didn't blitz. Our best games were the ones in which we brought pressure. We really missed Eisworth. Why exactly did he miss the game?

This 3 man front hasn't been working for several games now, I think ISU should maybe do a 3 man front but bring a random LB or DB every play. What do I know, but the last few games the opposing QB has had a lot of time to find an open receiver. With enough time even a crappy QB will find someone open.

Can someone explain why we put in Kempt for that one drive? He looked awful and sealed his fate with an absolutely terrible pick

Embarrassing game for ISU today, but hats off to Drake, a program I grew up close to being my Dad's alma mater. Happy for Drake. Concerned for ISU, though, because the near historic loss to an FCS non-scholarship program could lift WVU into a better bowl over ISU since both are tied 3rd in Big 12... If Oklahoma hangs on for the W with what looks like a relatively strong D performance today in Big 12 championship I think there's a good chance Sooners get into CFP playoffs, which puts TX in Sugar, and either WVU/ISU in the Alamo.

A lot remains to be seen and of course I have rarely hoped to be wrong so bad! If today cost us the Alamo bowl, though, I can only imagine Campbell and Pollard might regret scheduling today's game more than they do now... Or maybe not... maybe they and many others feal the revival of the in-state rivalry was worth it, and in the long run who knows...

"Does Iowa State’s inability to blow out Drake, a non-scholarship team that’s a part of the Pioneer Football League, make the Cyclones a less intriguing option?"

Hopefully not. Was today's game a win-win for both programs? That remains to be seen, but no matter the final outcome of today's game both programs have a lot to be proud of this season and a lot to look forward to in the future...

Why would they be? They were hoping to be in the Big XII championship game. Even after that the starters thought they'd maybe play a quarter. With the field in terrible shape, rain, wind we just shouldn't be playing football in Ames in December.

That's a horrible excuse for not being prepared to play. It leads to exactly what happened yesterday. So, instead of the starters being mentally ready to play as hard as possible for a quarter to blow up the scoreboard to let the other guys play, they ended up needing to play the whole game.

And you cannot blame the field or weather for that game, both sides had to play in the same conditions.

If I had to guess, we have tried to run up the middle probably 300 times this season. I can think of 1 play, Sheldon Croney's touchdown, where it actually opened up for a clear run. Some of our best runs this year were called to go up the middle but Montgomery saw nowhere to run and so just burst to the outside. Even against Drake we could not run three times up the middle and get a first down. Does anyone understand our insistence on that being our most-used, primary play? I do not claim to be a football genius but I am thoroughly perplexed by all the seemingly wasted downs running into a brick wall. Am I wrong?
We simply have shown to have few plays to run/pass/. Period.

You’re right. It isn’t like the coaches are trying to build a foundation to the program, or anything.

You’re also right. We sure haven’t had any success with this staff either.

I’m not taking anything away from Drake....they played extremely well but the weather and field conditions kept them in the game.
We fumbled a punt snap inside our 5....fumbled a wet ball trying to pass (again inside our 30)...and threw an interception that was returned into our side of the field.
Drake was playing 5 down lineman most of the game and usually had 9 in the box because they knew we couldn’t throw downfield. If the conditions were normal...we would thrown downfield all game and they wouldn’t have stopped us. We would have been able to use our athleticism.
We are not a run first team...yet. We were going to struggle today.
Also...we were without both starting safeties, our starting defensive end, and we lost a starting linebacker.
We did not play well...at all but we won the game. In years past we lose this game!!!
The weather was forecasted in advance. Drake prepared for the game. ISU did not. Football is most often played outdoors. Conditions of play are often less than ideal. Stop with the excuses.
