and it took Monte all 4 years to add enough strength to be strong enough to play in the NBA. You never know how anyone is going to develop, but I don't see the NBA clamoring for him even after a couple years. Hate to mess with the kids shot when he is shooting pretty well, but that shot is just ugly to watch until it goes in.

At the 2017 combine, Monte measured 6’3”, 175lbs, with a 6’5” wingspan. Tyrese is 6’5”, 172lbs, with a 7 FOOT WINGSPAN. That is why scouts are drooling.

You can add weight (though the new trend for bigs is to trim down). You can fix a shot. You can’t teach length and athleticism.

He's just so much fun to watch. The assist where he got the record was just crazy. I thought that record would never be broken, but shooting 70% helps :)

I guess Prohm knew what he was doing when he picked Tyrese over Tyler Harris.
ANd so does playing against a team that is 1-9.

I believe Monte was actually below 150 lbs when he showed up in Ames.

And on the Haliburton NBA speculation, I think the impressive takeaway here is that he's being viewed as a prospect this early when most (including me) thought he wouldn't contribute at all this year. Let's make sure we keep it in perspective though that he's being viewed as a long term prospect. His ability to knock down set shot open threes is a huge asset for this team particularly and when your surrounded by guys who can play make in general.

I think it was Fred who said Monte showed up at 148#.

Maybe the best option would be to sell the same number of student tickets, then maybe make everybody claim their ticket a week before the game somehow. Then any that end up unclaimed they sell to the general public as a general admission ticket. Just an idea. Would hate to shrink the student section because then you end up with an atmosphere like carver which has a pretty small student section.

I will say it’s more like a 4 hour break from studying, which could be pretty critical for a student that likes to cram.

In no way want to shrink the student section either but at some point you've got to face reality. If you have a high demand of non-students wanting to buy tickets for "soldout" games then the atmosphere would be better with them inside the building instead of only 5 rows of students in the balcony.

I don't ever see the "claim your ticket" idea happening because Athletics wouldn't want to try and manage that headache every week or 2.

Let conference season get here.

True. I’m not opposed to shrinking the balcony of the student section in half I guess. I just hope that if that is done, the students that buy the tickets and don’t go aren’t still buying tickets and taking them away from a student that would go.

I say turn sections 220 and 224 to the public. Also, I don’t know if they still do it, but they need to stop offering the Football and Basketball student tickets being bought as a package deal. Should be both sold separate. Too many buy it out of convenience, then don’t end up attending basketball.

OK, I'm going to do it. I know I am going to catch hell, but I don't know of any other place to write this. And as a reminder, I am writing this as a verified Haliburton fan before he even became a Cyclone.

All that said...

The 15th assist - to Zion Griffin - was not an assist. Haliburton throws a cross-court pass to Griffin for a corner three. Griffin is closely guarded as he receives the pass, so he pump-fakes, takes a dribble to his right (technically away from the basket) and shoots a contested jumper.

I hate to be "that guy", but that is not an assist. The other 16 are classic examples of assist of all types, but that one is just a pass to a guy who (granted, shortly thereafter), made a basket.

It's in the books, so it's an assist.

In the post-game press conference, he said that he told Heft this week that he would break the record.

Yeah from what ive read and heard he set out to break it and his teammates knew it. Not to take away from it but it was against a horrible team and he knew after that game that Wigginton would be back and he would not have a chance again at least not this year

I have a feeling that conference play won't matter with this generation of students. Their attendance is beyond pathetic. It's time to sell off half of the student balcony section on the east end even if that would take away the seats that our family usually uses to sit together in.

"Finals start Monday", good grief. You can't use a 1-2 hour break from studying?? I'm not expecting a packed house for Southern but I would expect more than 200 students out of an enrollment of 35,000+, it was a joke and has been this entire year so far.
Student here. Remind me to get off your lawn.

I thought the attendance for the Drake football game was pathetic of all of you old people who claim to be there through thick and thin, but I kept my mouth shut.

Conference play will make a difference. Students aren't dumb; they know the lines, they know the quality of the opponent. And they know that their attendance at a game against Southern makes no difference. This is coming from someone who's been to every game this year, and multiple road football games. Shrinking the student section will only kill Hilton Magic. The old folks hardly make any noise anyway.

While I'm ranting, some of the problem is how gimmicky the atmosphere has become the past couple of seasons. Whether it's the "Hey Band," forced BS, or the dumb hand crank tornado siren, students see right through that crap. We grew up in the internet age, with gimmicks everywhere. We crave authenticity, and we don't like it when spirit is "directed" from the top-down. Let us do our thing, from the bottom-up. Not a single "Let's Go State" chant has gotten off the ground this year, even against Missouri. A lot of that is about the quality of the game, but another part is that every break in the action, there's some kind of bull-**** going on. LET THE MAGIC BREATHE.

Oh come on.
Most he had before that game was 5. As I said it was a hell of a game for him he just had a lot of factors in his favor. Do you remember the Grinnell kid that put up like 135 points in a game? His teammates knew before the game they were going to try to do that. Just like this game when the team knew he was going for it and to get him the ball when going up the floor

Every other player on every other team has had the opportunity to do this and hasn't. Not sure why you want to **** on a remarkable accomplishment.
