I could make an argument that the conference tournament is more “important” but the regular season title is the title that absolutely matters in determining who the conference champion is and, at least in terms of P6 conferences, is the one people care about.
With the NCAA tournament, do people really care about either? I'd bet most couldn't name the regular season conference champions of most other P6 conferences.

The best part of the regular season championship is the overall record that generally comes with it. Then again, I'd rather be 2012 Colorado than 2012 Washington.

If KU wins at KState the streak continues. We absolutely need the teams to split and there is no way KU loses at home.
That is a good point. The same is true with Baylor, vs KSU. They still need to play twice. If both series split, and ISU redeems itself versus those teams, they come out on top.

This "streak needs to end" stuff makes no sense to me. Yeah, it needs to end if WE end it. Whoever does end it will get a nauseating amount of pub. If it's not ISU, I don't want to hear it. I damn sure don't want to hear it if it's little brother from Manhattan. After all the great teams ISU has had over the past 15 years, ANYBODY but us dethroning KU is gonna piss me off.

agree...I’m a Cyclone fan. Why do I want props for anybody but us?

I'd disagree. I think the 2000 and 2001 teams with Fizer and Tinsley will always have a special place for me. I specifically remember those years for regular season conference titles they won. Winning a conference title is significant.

In the history of the Big 12 the tourney winners have already been in. For power conferences it rarely has an impact beyond moving a team or two up or down a seed line.

Why does anyone care about "the streak" It's the dumbest thing out there. The regular season is just for seeding in the Big 12 tournament. If Texas had won the Big 12 Championship game over Oklahoma would anyone be saying, "Yeah, but Oklahoma was the regular season Big 12 champion." I'll root for KSU as I have more confidence in them slipping up somewhere than Kansas. Heck just win out and ISU is guaranteed a tie at worst for the mythical regular season champion.
Big difference in football. To play in the conf title game you have to be top 2. Everybody makes the bball conf tourney. Also, winning the conf championship game got OU in to the playoffs. Winning the bball tourney has never been the difference in a big12 team making the tournament.

Of course, they were seasons in which our favorite team had a lot of wins, one of which was somewhat unpredicted.

Winning a regular season title is significant. So is winning a tournament title. But in terms of people caring, they quickly become a footnote to what teams do in the NCAA tournament. Who won the P6 conferences a year ago?

I'd trade either for a seed worthy of being in DSM.

I'd struggle to name all the power conference champions from a year ago, sure. However, 40-50 years down the road I know I'll be able to tell you Iowa State won the conference in 2000 and 2001 with All Americans Fizer and Tinsley. 40-50 years down the road I'd have a hard time providing you with the season Niang broke his foot or the year we had a ridiculously talented team and lost to UAB. That's just me. If you aren't a blue blood conference titles are impactful to your program and fans. Not to mention, winning a power five conference and THEN making a deep run in the tournament earns you a lot more respect rather than just being a lucky flash in the pan.

Ok, lil bro.
You're just looking for a reason to be offended when the majority on here have said they prefer KSU to win.

I hear that winning the Big 12 might also have a positive impact on the team's NCAA tourney seeding but that might just be a rumor.

The PAC 12 is so terrible that winning that conference guarantees nothing these days. For the rest of the power conferences, winning the regular season title is an unofficial guarantee of an ncaa tourney bid and a top 4 seed.

The obvious answer is we want the purple kittens to win. KState is bound to lose at least one more game that’s not against ISU, so cheer for the purple kitties because we need Kansas to lose because they are better than every team in this conference not named Iowa State.
