Unlike past regimes I'm not worried at all. Campbell and Co would not have recruited the kid if they didn't believe he was doing everything in his power to earn a second chance.

For the sake of the kid, Ames is a great place to get your life in order as well. Hope he continues down this path of success here.

He was committed to West Virginia, so we know he has passed Dana's criteria of a "professional."

This guy held up a convenience store his senior year in high school after committing to Penn State. He is their version of Sam Mack. I’m not really a fan of this pickup by Campbell. He’s built his program on character and I’m sure he has set a pretty high standard for Isheem to meet, but it feels too risky for the culture he is building.

All, not to ruin your exciting but its been said that rivals is going to be dropping him from a 4 start to a 3 star since he didn't play last year. This will make his final ratings a 3 star.

It's safe to say that with Datrone and Isheem, we are going to be Young in the secondary.

14 Big Ten or SEC offers.....he may be good.
Obviously, those offers were from before the armed robbery conviction. But he does still have the same skills that earned him those offers. Seems like we entered the picture late after West Virgina backed off, according to the Des Moines Register..

This will be an interesting test then. We have a lot in common with other programs who have found success by working with mid-tier recruits who are hungry and coachable. We coach the hell out of them and the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Then as those programs build success, they attract better talent, but sometimes that also means more character issues and things that can mess with the chemistry and culture of a program. Then they underachieve relative to their newer, better talent level.

Given how much Campbell talks about culture I will assume they have approached this carefully. I don't know anything about this kid, but I would guess he's an otherwise good kid who made a big mistake and sincerely wants to right himself.

Johnnie Lang did some regrettable things before arriving here too. Nonetheless, haven't heard a peep about him having bad character since arriving. Every situation is different, but lets not jump to conclusions.

I'm all in on my trust in this staff however I will say Young is a risky move If this blows up in Matt's face it will take some of the lusty off the program they have worked so hard to build.

Negative recruiting is a fact of life and taking a convicted felon will be mentioned when coaches are sitting in a kid's livingroom. Hope it works, Guessing the expectations were spelled out.
