The size of the school is not as important in the middle classes like it is for 1A and 4A where the differences are massive.
1A 15-159
2A 160-286
3A 293-660
4A 684-2202

How is DCG & Norwalk not 4a? Do they calculate enrollment every year?

Keep an eye on North Polk. They will be sky rocketing up the school numbers soon. They have a new school just north of Ankeny that is really a nice place. Brand new football stadium. Guessing Ankeny parents will start moving a little more north for class sizes.

Norwalk has been on the verge twice now for going 4A but other schools grew slightly fast I have heard.

I just wish they could get it so they could make a league without FD, MC, Ottumwa, and Marshalltown. A true DSM metro league. Those trips were always freaking terrible. But we did have to go to Newton in those days so at least the kids have it a little better now.

Norwalk could compete in every sport in 4A right now with little problem. Women's basketball and Football they would get crushed.

It will be only a matter of time before a shot clock is implemented. Those high scoring 40 point games went out in the flat ball era, or Hawkeye games.

League will change when second high school in Waukee opens.

Honestly, I don't know why Ottumwa doesn't go back to the Southeast Seven. It geographically makes more sense for them. FD and MC are both in the middle of nowhere. FD is surrounded by smaller schools, and the only other 4A conference is the Missouri River and that would mean they have to go Council Bluffs. MC is in the same boat. There next bet would be the Mississippi Valley and that would mean trips to Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, or Dubuque. Marshalltown from DSM really isn't too bad, unfortunately they are not overly competitive.
