I could get behind Fred at Nebraska. I didn't really care what he did after he left for the NBA, but at least if he goes to Nebbie we'll get to see him beat up on the Hoks with little chance that we'd play them outside of a home/home deal that we'd purposefully work out for a non-important non-con game. Much better than if he lands at a blueblood and wins multiple championships. I don't think I could handle the ISU fanbase under that scenario.

Oh no, you are gravely mistaken about the ISU fanbase. Him winning at a blueblood means so what.....everyone wins at a blue blood. But can you imagine this website if Nebby has a good year the same year we don't? Look out!

I would think Fred would wait until the end of the nba season to see what jobs are open. If he takes Nebraska whenever they are done with the NIT I’ll be really confused.

yeah there will be a lot more job openings coming up pretty soon including good college options as well as NBA.

Also, if they are letting go of Miles, what a crappy way to do it. Leak it out he is going to be fired while he still has to coach the NIT. But doesn't surprise me with Nebraska. Funny thing is there seem to be plenty of people that don't like the idea of hiring Hoiberg. They even have an entitled sense of what they should get in basketball despite sucking.

Screw this. Nebraska can gf themselves. I'd root for him to win at Duke before I'd want him to succeed at Nebraska.

This board would need its own Forum Category for people to get their rocks of on all of the "What If" scenarios if he ends up at a blueblood with the resources to bring in top talent and compete nationally right away.

It's bad enough already with the people that want him back. Best case scenario is that he ends up at a decent school that he can build some success at. Sounds like Nebbie would fit that mold. No issue if they find some consistent success with Fred. Plus with NU in the BIG, it ends up being an "Enemy of my enemy is my friend" scenario.

So if I understand right, would he be taking an actual $1 million pay cut just to coach? He has $5 million guaranteed, but would only get $4 million to coach and wouldn’t get any of the $5 million from the Bulls if he takes a coaching job?

I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone Miles is getting fired. It’s been openly talked about for weeks now.

I think it's "offset" language. So he's owed $5M no matter what. Nebraska would give him 4 so the Bulls would owe him 1.

If Nebraska is smart they backload the deal.

Put down the shovel, your hole is deep enough dude. Maybe I don't monitor things here 24/7 but from being around other "diehards" I get the sense from 95% that they want the best for Fred wherever that may be.

However you blowing off Nebraska as "just another school" that would be great to see him win at is idiotic. You sound like a typical western Iowa 80's Nebraska fan that converted to ISU once we started winning more than once every 2 football seasons.

You know this is going to actually happen. This has the markings of a classic CF thread:

1- Poster comes out of nowhere with a crazy idea.

2- Idea is corroborated but not linked by other posters.

3- Details start to line up.

4- It happens.

The salary numbers floating around match up. From the posts in this thread, it sounds like he has an offer at the minimum.
Stop trying to make a sensical pattern. All coincidences. Or ironic. Alanis Morissette has left me confused for 20 plus years.

Also, when making a theoretical chronological list, the last item listed has to be profit. Is this your first post?

Hoiberg to Nebraska wouldn't be in the best interest of Iowa State for local recruits. With his name, it would be another competitor to some of the upper tier recruits in the midwest region. It'd be better for Nebraska to stay where it is so there is one less school to compete with for the tier of recruits we go after.

My uninformed opinion thinks that would apply to NBA jobs.

Sorry I don't have as much Nebraska hate as the rest. I spent my time at ISU in the late 90s and early 2000s. I wasn't from Iowa and wasn't a fan growing up so maybe I'm a bit skewed, but I'm still entitled to my opinion. NU hasn't done much of anything since I've followed college sports, so yeah, I view them as just another middling school trying to ride off of success that happened generations ago (in a completely different sport BTW).

They are **** in basketball, and while I like Fred, I don't really think he'll be able to turn them into anything more than a solid, occasional tournament team. We're not in the same conference anymore, so why be worked up if that is where he ends up.

Honestly I'm gonna feel bad for Prohm. Having Hoiberg so close will just perpetuate the morons pining for him and comparing Prohm to him.

I can see part of next year now... "Pollard made such a huge mistake not hiring Hoiberg last year when he could have" - CF, probably, as soon as we lose 2 games and Nebraska wins 2 games.

Realistically, won't there be some people that think this no matter where he ends up in college?
