It should be pretty easy to out-recruit Hoiberg. I mean, we saw it first hand. He hates it. He's on record stating he hates it. And other schools can push the "How long will he be there?" card, just like what happened to us before and is happening to us now in football.

This is what I am thinking. The articles are out there about how cutthroat the recruiting business is, and how lots of recruiters don't hesitate to throw anything at the recruits. For Hoiberg, not only can his recruiting competition throw out any big-name college coaching opening rumors, but they can also throw in the NBA GM opening rumors, and then there is always the "spouse doesn't like small town living" stuff that's been going around this message board. I'd think any contract would need stiff buyout clauses to counteract that stuff. Or maybe he'll go with the one-and-done model in Lincoln and go for kids who really don't care about long term commitments...

Yeah wasn't Jeremy on CF saying the donors were ready to back Pollard and pay Fred. But the donors also wanted a long term contract with a massive NBA buyout clause too.

Yeah, all the relevant bigwigs said something like this.

Pollard was willing to back the truck up to Fred's place, but only if Fred was going to make some sort of long-term commitment to ISU and not just do it again next year.

If money was the issue, the AD was determined to make it no longer an issue.

Fred told him do not bother -- he is going to the NBA. Time to move on.

And we did.

That was the narrative. I think JP is wise enough to offer Fred as much as possible, if not more, but those comments let JP off the hook.

Since we’re on the topic, I doubt Hines and his numerous sources were totally off.

Sources about what? The Hawaii trip? I’m sure Hines had sources on that. I’d bet my life one was Matt A, who is slimy. I also bet one was Fred. However, I doubt the story is that true.

BTW ... why the heck is Fred (I assume with Nebraska's OK) putting out public statements about replacing an existing (not fired) coach who is trying to prepare his team for a post-season tournament? I don't care what has been communicated privately among the parties, It is a **** way for Neb to be publically treating Miles.

My thoughts too. I am assuming the Nebraska AD will be fired the day after Fred is signed. This would be a cluster !@#$ if true for an Athletic Director.

I think it was probably true in the literal sense.

They probably did have to check out in the morning and wait for their flight to leave from Hawaii in the evening. As far as I know, there are *no* commercial flights that leave from HNL early in the morning. You have to take a red-eye back to the mainland.

Which sucks but, then again, who wants to leave Hawaii any earlier.

A few of the guys staying out late and being tired/hungover the next morning and needing to clear out of their rooms, maybe crashing in a hotel ballroom trying to sleep it off while the rest of the team and staff went to the beach, is a little different from the way Hines phrased it about them having to basically sleep on the floor. I doubt any business in the country would pay for an employee to have a room they would vacate only a few hours after check-in in the late afternoon like that. Hines pulled a fast one on the phrasing, not the facts.

I think it was true but malicious interpreted and in totally bad faith.

If that AD pulled in Frost, then gets Fred, he ain't going anywhere. He'll be legend for awhile there.

It's been known Nebraska was going to explore new options. The AD and Miles had a meeting recently, saying the same thing.

This is ******** and you know it. They would have given Fred whatever he wanted.

The big donors would have ponied up whatever was necessary. I was told that personally.

The idea that you need to make **** up is silly

They probably got their info from that Travis Hines hit piece.
