Stop trying to make a sensical pattern. All coincidences. Or ironic. Alanis Morissette has left me confused for 20 plus years.

Also, when making a theoretical chronological list, the last item listed has to be profit. Is this your first post?

Good point. #profit!

Makes his summer job easy, fall back on Hoiberg troll columns every other week. I used to like him a lot more but his Twitter feed typically filling up with posts when ISU is losing/bringing up past failures gets really annoying.

Hines thinks he is better than sports.

I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone Miles is getting fired. It’s been openly talked about for weeks now.

Yeah talking heads have been saying it but for the admin to leak they are going to do it after he loses in the NIT is just crappy. Either fire him now or don't leak the info.
They may have considered letting Miles have an extra year. I've always heard that he's considered to be a pretty good guy and many colleges will give that type of person some extra slack. However, when he made his "millionaire" comment, he lost lost his good guy persona. That comment pretty much sealed his fate.

Sorry I don't have as much Nebraska hate as the rest. I spent my time at ISU in the late 90s and early 2000s. I wasn't from Iowa and wasn't a fan growing up so maybe I'm a bit skewed, but I'm still entitled to my opinion. NU hasn't done much of anything since I've followed college sports, so yeah, I view them as just another middling school trying to ride off of success that happened generations ago (in a completely different sport BTW).

They are **** in basketball, and while I like Fred, I don't really think he'll be able to turn them into anything more than a solid, occasional tournament team. We're not in the same conference anymore, so why be worked up if that is where he ends up.

"It’s only fitting that Fred Hoiberg is known as The Mayor.

Mayors, like any leader, are looked to for guidance. They’re respected. And in the case of Ames freshman Tamin Lipsey, who was just a year old when Hoiberg played his last NBA game, Hoiberg is seen as a hero and measuring stick.

“I really look at him as a role model,” Lipsey told the Ames Tribune.

As long as he’s not in the Big 12 or at Iowa, I don’t really see the problem. Iowa doesn’t seem realistic, but imagine turning down the paycheck from Texas when they fire Smart.

Meh, my main worry is him stealing our recruits. I would cheer for Nebraska to beat the Hawks, but I wouldn’t wish him success against anyone else in the Big 10. I cheered against Hoiberg when he was at the Bulls, because I have a strong hate for the Bulls, pretty much the same with Nebraska. Nothing personal.

This report makes a lot of sense for Fred and his agent.
1. Get Nebraska to make a major offer (4 mil + a year).
2. Let it leak so other more desirable programs know what i'll take to get Fred and if interested contact his agent.
3. Take the best job that fits Fred. Nebraska could be that though I think there will be better situations that would want him. He can always pass on Neb and have the parameters set for next year.
NBA is also on notice that Fred is ready to work so contact him right now instead of waiting.

UCLA for instance is known for being rather stingy on paying coach, facilities and flying commercial. If they want CFH they need to come with a real offer and not low ball due to being a "blue blood".
I was also thinking about Minnesota, Pitino making the tourney probably makes him safe but recruiting and fan support are pretty bad right now. Hoiberg could easily sell recruits locally, has a place in the area already and Minnesota should be a better situation than Nebraska. Maybe their new AD makes a proactive move.

You know this is going to actually happen. This has the markings of a classic CF thread:

1- Poster comes out of nowhere with a crazy idea.

2- Idea is corroborated but not linked by other posters.

3- Details start to line up.

4- It happens.

The salary numbers floating around match up. From the posts in this thread, it sounds like he has an offer at the minimum.
I am 'the poster that came out of nowhere with a crazy idea'. :) I have been a Cyclone fan since the 1970's, but post very infrequently. I also visit other teams message boards on occasion and the Hoiberg to Nebraska chatter has been going on awhile, so surprised no one was talking about it. Personally, I would be very disappointed if Fred took the Nebraska job. Having said that, I would be fine if he took just about any other college job besides a Big 12 team(or Iowa, which goes without saying). Clone fans I know that came of age in the 70's and 80's just do not like the Cornhuskers.

To say it was never about the money was disingenuous. An aspect of it was coaching in the NBA and an aspect of it was the money. Pollard is a very good AD but he wasn’t going to pay Fred what he was worth when the health of the football program wasn’t that great. Fred was one of the lower paid coaches in the Big 12 and Pollard essentially told fans on the summer tour that they were close to the limit of what they could pay Fred and that some of those costs would be passed onto the fans. It was a ****** move but being “frugal” is JP’s MO and at the time it was a move that had to be made because football was stagnant.

This is ******** and you know it. They would have given Fred whatever he wanted.

The big donors would have ponied up whatever was necessary. I was told that personally.

The idea that you need to make **** up is silly

yeah there will be a lot more job openings coming up pretty soon including good college options as well as NBA.

You’re assuming he would be in contention for any job outside like Orlando.

NBA people were extremely critical of his coaching. Not that he worked for a **** franchise, but the actual team accountability, effort, organization, etc

I’m pretty sure Pollard came out and said he’d do everything in his power financially if that’s what it took. Obviously you can’t just come out and say “welp, name your price, Fred!” But I seem to remember him saying if just money was the issue, he’d do everything to make sure to resolve that.

And didn't Fred pretty much say, 'don't offer me more, I won't take it'

Yeah wasn't Jeremy on CF saying the donors were ready to back Pollard and pay Fred. But the donors also wanted a long term contract with a massive NBA buyout clause too.

It should be pretty easy to out-recruit Hoiberg. I mean, we saw it first hand. He hates it. He's on record stating he hates it. And other schools can push the "How long will he be there?" card, just like what happened to us before and is happening to us now in football.
Agree. Nebby doesn't feel like a long term thing for him. Not that I would know.

I have always liked Fred, but if he goes to the Neb cornholios it will be seen as a **** move by a sizeable segment of the Cyclone fan base.

As he is leaving Ames he indicates he hates recruiting ... then goes to a historical rival and starts recruiting for that rival. I suspect that many of those in this thread that are claiming somehow that would not bother them will feel diferently when he starts pulling good recruits out of Mn, Chi, Ia, Wi, etc. for the cornos.
