Mostly midwest, but the national media was talking about him. I guess the proof might be getting an NBA job with his resume.

Ummm. He got a job from a guy he played for and stayed friends with.

He really should have waited and used that relationship with Flip, oh wait.

Yea, cuz if Bill Self went to the Bulls, got fired and landed a job at Mizzou, nobody would have a thread going on Phog Forums.

This is personal how anyone sees it differently is odd to me. He was amazing as an Ames High basketball player. The ISU Legend That is Johnny Orr adored Fred. Johnny got Fred to go to college in Ames. He was an all American. We all followed and bought jerseys throughout his NBA career. He came back to Ames for his Jersey retirement ceremony. At the Ceremony He Said he would be back to Coach at ISU. He then begged Pollard 2 times for the Job in Ames. Begged. He gave a press conference of a lifetime and told everyone he was finally home and happy. We all believed him. He then went on to great success. He even brought Back Johnny had a drink with him brought him out to show off to Johnny What Johnny created and Fred brought it back. He did it during the Michigan game even to make it extra special for Johnny. I am Grateful that Johnny got that day. Then something happened. Maybe the recruitment of the kid that went to UNLV. I don't know what it was but something changed. ESPN putting Freds crying son all over ESPN vs Kansas didnt help. Then Fred stopped recruiting and started flirting with other jobs. Fred checked out. The Team knew it and what should have been back to back elite 8 or final 4 runs was destroyed. He didnt even have the Bulls Job until after the heart surgery. So he left the team in Limbo until the last possible moment. Then the ridiculous exit press conference. Praise be that Steve Prohm took the job. Now he took the highest paying job he could regardless of the damage to the University that had called him the Mayor for 25 years. Mayor ********** is over. We all thought he was a better person than the one he turned out to be. He didn't end up being Johnny he is just Tim Floyd.

If my saying it makes you realize that you're unnecessarily angry and take steps to get better then I feel like I've done a public service for the day.

Sure we can go with that. It’s all about you feeling better about yourself here.

Ok, this ******** is ridiculous. Him going to the bulls and then going to Nebraska does not make him a bad person.

The level of pure stupidity and ridiculous drama going on in this thread is frankly really f*cking embarrassing for the Iowa State fan base. If I was an Iowa or Kansas fan reading through this thread I would be laughing my a$$ off.

FFS, there are some Cyclone fans who would rather see the Hoiberg family living homeless on the streets of Chicago than see him take a job coaching anywhere else than ISU. If he really did want to leave Ames due to being in a "fishbowl", then I really can't blame him a bit based on the behavior of some of the posters on here.

For 3.5 million, I'll be Bill Self's personal ball-washer. That's a lot of $; even if you have $, most don't just stop and say 'well I've made enough'

Just stopping by to throw in that I'm not pissed he's going there given all the variables but, damn, reading that it is finalized now hit me way more in the feels than I expected.

Fred seems to be a bit like Steve Alford...failing into a great paying job . I really expected UCLA to be after Fred but maybe they learned their lesson with Stevie.

Leonard Hamilton, who had the closest resume to Fred at the time they jumped to the league, and Lon Krueger both had decent success coming back to the college game. Nothing close to Pitino or Calipari level of success though

I’ll give you Hamilton. But Lon had a lot of success. A final 4 an elite 8 and some sweet 16s. He won at KState, Florida, and Illinois.
