The media isn't obligated to do what's in ISU's best interest, they don't report on things former players are doing because it's good for ISU, they do it because they know people around here will care about it. Clearly people care about this.

Exactly, which is why Hoiberg going to Nebraska is impactful to ISU. You’re starting to catch on!

I wouldn't worry about it being his last stop. He's never been up front about his future plans in any position that he's held. He's proven that If his lips are moving, he's lying.

Not saying you aren't potentially right, but isn't it possible that the NBA experience soured him into thinking that college is where he belongs, and now that there are so many family ties, relatives in that area, that whether circumstantial or not, the timing of this all, it led him to NU? But I do think this whole thing was just a whirlwind of circumstances with the weird timing of Bulls firing, a Miles team that was rated early in the year and went in the dumpster, and the family ties (especially about his grandpa coaching there). All of those thing had to happen or Nebraska isn't celebrating this day.

I hate to extend the life of this thread but ... you guys asking why Iowa media are there lack self-awareness. We don’t want to care about Nebraska basketball but we do because Fred is there and he’s saying things we don’t want to hear. The media covers things we care about and they ask questions about things even when those things suck.

Legacy means different things to different people I guess. He was #1 on my ISU Mt. Rushmore. He's not anymore. I guess that's defined by the ISU fanbase as a whole, but I think there are more that feel the way I do than don't. Time will tell.

Why?? He needed/wanted a new job, he gave two good runs to ISU (player, coach) and chose to move on for NBA challenge, and then ISU was set when he was free again. Is he not allowed to go to (a non-conference) nearby school just because it is close by for recruiting? Even though he has significant family connections there too? Was he obligated to go to UCLA to avoid conflict with our delicate attachment/withdrawal/abandonment feelings - while simultaneously obligated to have the UCLA plane layover in Iowa on each x-country flight to stop and kiss the black soil of Iowa? Was his daughter going to Kansas also a demerit in your Book of Judgement? His fellow grown-up peer coaches like Campbell and Prohm can still get along with him (and regularly chat)...I suspect we can too!

In his presser today he said the main reason he chose GBR was the facilities and the fanbase was "second to none"...I realize the CF administration wants us to be "all happy for Fred" but I'm sorry I can't. I sincerely hope they put his picture on the big screen opening day of the football season. The fans can show what we think of him just like he's repeatedly shown what he thinks of us

I've explained it well enough in other posts. I'm done posting about him until we play him or he recruits against us. The circus is over. Time to move on.

Fred said that the Husker fanbase was "second to none"?

If that's what he said, then f*** Fred.... that is all. He can coach wherever he wants, I don't care, but he doesn't have to rub it in our face and outright lie.

Yes it was all over the Sioux City newsstations tonight, right from his mouth. Makes me feel great as I drive in blizzard conditions 6 hours a night to help fill up Hilton....F FRED

Agree. Fred feels the Huskers have the best basketball fans in the country.... even though they used to give students a free basketball season ticket if they bought a football season ticket..... while at ISU they had a lottery every year because there were too many students wanting tickets for the amount of tickets available.

I'm sick of Fred. He just loves his $$ and not much else at this point.

You guys are getting way too worked up about standard press conference stuff. The goal of a press conference is to fire up the fanbase. Why would fred tell them that this is a stepping stone job and they were an average-at-best fan base?

Count me in as astounded that there are that many members of the Iowa media there. Honest question, do Iowa State fans really care? That ship sailed 5 years ago.
I don't think it's that surprising. There's nothing else really going on, and Iowans love hearing about people with local ties so it gives them something to talk about. Plus, I know the members of this website are probably more passionate than other cyclone fans, but we're over 2,000 posts deep into a thread on it. I'd say there's interest
