I think we are finally realizing what Chizik meant when he said we just plain aren't a good team right now. Anytime you have more than 4-5 freshmen step in and be impact players you know that your team is not in good shape talent-wise.

everybody wants to win and win now, but you are 100% correct it takes time, the Big 12 is a tough conference to play in, they always seem to have represenative competing for the National prize and that takes experience, talent and some good fortune

There's always an exception to this rule haha. Texas, OU, etc. etc. I think both our respective teams will be alright. I don't think we're as bad as everyone thought though. If the UConn game would've gone our way, we would've had a pretty realistic shot at going bowling. Unfortunately, it gets absolutely no easier next week going into Stillwater to face a Okie Lite team that just knocked off Mizzou. I think we all know that there are no weeks off in this conference anymore. The Big 12 is probably the best conference in the country at this point.

Its hard to compare this team to the teams of the 90's. They didn't have so many cupcake games at the beginning of the season to put a couple of wins in the books. This game was a new low for Chizik and would be a low for any D1 coach. They seem to be unable to make adjustments. Why pay a seven figure salary to this guy? We may as well find a high school coach from Florida or Texas.

New coaching staff -- Chizik has never been a head coach anywhere -- not even high school. The better question is why did Pollard guarantee him and his staff so much, he could have guaranteed him less and given him more incentives.

In further news...how many next years can this fanbase take? Its one thing after another...What a miserable defeat...This is the first time I have ever been ashamed to be a cyclone fan. I could have seriously put together a pop warner team that would have been a better fight than that

Not reading any posts...I was bored from the start. I didn't feel the rush that we might come back.

The tole of Iowa State never being good in my lifetime is really wearing thin. And no...an Insight.com Bowl win isn't great.

U-Better hope that Chizik turns this around or else you will be like me with ISU being mediocre for another 20 years or so like me after the majors/bruce era and then losing to iowa for 15 straight and taking 22 years to get to the next bowl

I am not sure I agree with that. We just got blown out by Baylor!

Umm, if any of you watched their game against UCONN this wouldn't have been a surprise. Baylor has faster and better athletes than us. Not to toot my own horn(especially in an embarrasing loss), but I predicted this blowout all year. The kool-aid drinkers are really the only ones imo that didnt see this coming.

A couple of things.

Agree on the fundamentals 100%. Especially on line play. We are too inconsistent with opening holes up the middle. We can have one play that nets us 10 yards and on the next drive, or a few plays later, it nets us a loss. That is too inconsistent to be a good football team. I remember watching highlights from the late 90s/early 00s when we had an excellent line and the thing I remember the most is linemen getting downfield. I don't think I have seen that happen once in the last year and a half. I'm not saying it's a coaching problem but most likely an indication of the lack of talent/athleticism at that position. And that's where it all starts.

Second, to those few posters ragging on Chizik's contract. Go read it sometime. It's setup to be fair to a first time head coach and fair to the school that hired him. His base is somewhere under 500k and he'll only make 7 figures with a load of incentives.

Lastly, I think this will come with more snaps (or at least I hope so) but Arnuad has been late on nearly every one of his throws across the middle all year. Even Sumrall's TD to tie the game at UNLV happened because he slowed down and adjusted to a ball thrown behind him. The first pass we had in the Baylor game where Arnaud threw to Darks (and Darks got hurt) was a perfect example. He hits Darks on the back shoulder causing him to slow down and get popped. If he hits him in stride that play goes for 20, 25 yards. Maybe more. This doesn't excuse the receivers but highlights the amazingly slim margin we have between being successful and being...well...not.

I still support this staff 100% and will still be at the three remaining home games cheering my butt off. I think tonight exemplified how young of a staff we have and how young this team is. It is very dangerous when you have freshmen playing over returning seniors on both sides of the ball. It will take time and all of us should be there to enjoy it when it gets good.

I thought that after going to bed last night I would be able to wake with a better attitude about last night but all I'm finding in myself right now is that I might be even more mad now then i was last night after the game. WE GOT KILLED BY BAYLOR!!!!!!! I don't care about everbody saying they had better players then we did. WERE IN THE BIG 12. And everybody has good players more so this year then any other year. I really feel we are getting out coached and out smarted every week. I really like Chizik, but I think he needs a better supporting cast of coaches. At least on the offensive end. I know we have talent on our team just like everyone else but we are just missing something. Maybe I'm being a little rash here. But this one was different for some reason!!!!

Hey, we've been at this point MANY times. You guys are lucky because you've at least seen some highs in your tenure in the Big 12. You guys had a key player quit on your team and school 2 days before the game and honestly, totally not trying to be a jerk, but it just seems like we're flat out a better team. This isn't going to be an overnight thing. IT sure as hell hasn't been for us. It's taken us 14 years to be THIS good and we probably still won't get to a bowl. You guys will be fine. Don't abandon ship. Continue to show up, support your team, and things will get better. I can promise you that. You guys have a great school, great fans, and a solid foundation to build on in Arnaud. I know he didn't seem that great tonight, but you guys have seen him be a real stud at times, too. Y'all will be alright.

Yep,for sure. Great post. Some fans need to wake up and realize we played Baylor on their upswing. Sooner or later someone will catch us on ours. Baylor is a better team right now and deserved the win. We **** and moan about our player and coaches, but dont you think they feel it too? They know they failed, but they will be back next weekend to try again and again and again. I say we keep coming back and support them.
