He was in on a few plays, did some blocking.. obviously was never targeted.

It’s interesting to see the difference in philosophies in coaches. Campbell has seemed to always play conservative and close to the vest early in the season.

Living in Fargo and having to constantly consume the grossness that is NDSU constantly, I found this quote by the new coach to be refreshing and interesting. Speaking of, they went for 2 out of a swinging gate against Butler after the first touchdown of the game:

“My challenge to our team and our coaches is we need to make everyone defend every single play that we're out there," Entz said. "I know as a defensive coordinator, and I've been on the other side, where you have to defend every snap. You're worried about every situation. I'm going to make somebody else be that guy.

"When you do it early, you have to prepare for it now. Whoever our opponent is next week or the week after, they are going to have to take 10, 15 minutes a week now and say, 'One, how do we stop that play? Two, what are the alternative or secondary plays that come off that look?' Like I said, we're going to make people have to defend every snap."

This! Boring conventional wisdom is to not show any plays to give future opponents the video tape. Creative and intelligent coaches should be doing the exact opposite....you should be running the crazy ass plays that you have been practicing all summer early in year to force the future teams to prepare and suck their coaches time and oxygen....seems obvious, but what we saw in Ames was really not that. I want to see third stringers doing drop kicks for PAT's and swinging gates and flea flickers and all that crazy stuff. Ohio State doesn't have to do that.....Boise State and NDSU did to get where they are and still are.

How about using the running backs more this year in the passing game? Even the Bears GM and coach were surprised ISU didn't target Montgomery more as a receiver.

The amount of complaining over a victory in week 1 is ridiculous. Idc if it was an fcs school. We have lost to fcs schools in week 1 in the past. Some people need to realize this team did what it took to win and that is all that matters at the end of the day. Now you let the coaches get to work on cleaning stuff up. There are going to be ugly weeks and there are going to be great weeks, but a win is a win.

I disagree. We didn’t almost lose to a great team by failing to “execute” a sound game plan. I think we almost lost to a good FCS team in large part due to frazzled play calling. The team did what it took to win as you say despite this obvious fact that was even observed by the ESPN game summary

I don't want to answer that.

The OL talked this offseason how they weren't happy that they were looked at as the weak link of the team last season.... so they came out today and stunk it up again just to show that it was all true.

I don't want to be that cruel to the kids, but I was definitely confused when I heard people talking about all our returning o-line as if that was a positive. They got torn to shreds last season. Part of the reason Montgomery was leading in broken tackles is because he had to break them before he even hit the line of scrimmage all season.

They did look improved yesterday though.

Joey Ramos time at LT, JGJ has been a major disappointment.

Wasn't there an article a few weeks ago about the potential of the young lineman and how they might work their way up?

Or am I just hoping that's a thing so there's actually some real good Olinemen for ISU.

There’s an article every year about every position having young guys working their way up. Then when it doesn’t happen people say “BUT THERE WAS AN ARTICLE ABOUT IT!” like that means it was definitely going to happen or something.
