How much rain had ames actually gotten this week?

I have a hard time believing that 2 inches in a week would shut down all grass lots when it’s been dry.
Upwards of 3.5 inches

And is that enough to close the lots? I have a hard time believing 3 inches is enough to cause huge problem.

I think that the key will be whether they get any more rain on Thursday.

Unless a lot more comes I would be surprised if they are completely closed. There may be some areas within the lots that won't be available.

So I just got my parking pass for Saturday and it says lot G7 085. Does that mean there are numbered spots in the grass lot on directly East of Jack Trice?

JM - I'm in a similar boat. Babysitter kind of fell though so we won't get to Ames until noon at the earliest.
Like KC said, I'm looking for yellow/red parking lots on campus. The lots around the greenhouse/power plant are fairly large. Hoping spots will still be available.
Here's the campus parking map:
https://www.fpm.iastate.edu/maps/?layer=parking&ycenter=2039&xcenter=1753&zoom=2

I also may take the Blue #3 CyRide down to Lincoln Way/Beach. Would save a few blocks of walking at least.
So are all the campus parking lots open to the public?

Sure it does. The ground isn't saturated which means the water will be absorbed more quickly.

To a certain extent, sure. Would you be surprised that there was already water standing in the grass areas yesterday afternoon at the corner of S 4th and University? That is probably the worst draining area but I think people under estimate how poorly the entire area around the stadium drains.

We park in the handicapped lot S1, the drive is 2:30 hours, so I plan on leaving to reach the stadium between 5:00 to 5:30. Going to try and be on the road by 2:30, have to stop by Casey's and get ice, and then head north.
Is that lot entrance on the West side right by S1 open on gameday? This will be our first attempt to park in S1 and I have no idea what time we need to get there or how to get there.

I think most are open on the weekends. The Parking website is a little vague. Basically says to check the signage before you park.
https://www.parking.iastate.edu/map

Hours of payment are 7AM-5:30PM Monday through Friday.

Please read the signs and time limits on the various single meters carefully.

Most of the parking lots open after 5:30PM weekdays and all weekend. Please read the entrance sign at each parking lot to see when the lot opens without needing a permit.

Last year in IC they had all the grass lots closed and they hadn't had any rain for 3 day prior. It was kinda nice our tailgate was about 50' from 4 kybos in the lot. There was an opening that we could get through to use them. No clue why they kept the lots closed as their was no standing water and no mud. This was the grass lot just south of the parking ramp.
