If he wins out I would be all for bringing him back. I have better odds of suiting up for a game than that happening though.
Oh 100%. That's why I said although it's interesting to discuss, it ain't happening. We haven't won 2 games in a row since we beat UMKC and Seton Hall in the same week of early December 2019. We aren't all of a sudden winning 8 games in a row against high quality opponents.

Also, why do you think blue bloods are struggling this year? A lot of it has to do with the very short offseason, and very little time for new pieces to gel with existing pieces. Post Covid Cyclones are what 0-2? Will be interested to see what happens from here on out. Also with my 3 game thing we would need to play every team within 10. No 15+ losses.
I totally get all that stuff and you are right about new teams struggling, but i just dont see it as enough of a reason to continue this. It would be one thing if it was just a one-off season, but thats not whats going on with this program.

Yikes! Didnt realize it was that bad.

There is just a lot of risk hiring a new coach this offseason though too. Does Tyrese Hunter still come? (going to be a really good player). Does Foster Walk? Does Walker walk? We could literally be left with Conditt and no other post on the roster.

Didnt Mcdermott beat Kansas State in Manhattan when they were ranked 5th or something his last year? One game wont erase the last 4 years.

Yep. And that was by far and away his best win in his four seasons at Iowa State. It actually gave me some hope at the time going into the next season, but then we lost most of our best players that offseason (Brackins, Gilstrap, maybe a couple of others). I don't even know who his second best win would have come against.

Oh no, we continue losing. Don't keep Prohm because we'll lose players. We're just delaying things another year.

Yeah, I agree its risky, look on the flip side though. What happens if we bring in a solid coach and he is able to teach these guys how to win and the players develop next year? Its happened before where a team actually gets better the following year. Its not a foregone conclusion that the entire team is disbanded and we suck even worse next year.

I hate to bring another team in this state into the discussion, but George Raveling recruited some talent that he could barely get into the tournament with, along comes a guy that can actually coach and he gets the exact same players to the Elite 8.

There's always a risk in hiring a new coach and keeping the guys that are good on the roster. It happened when Coach Rhoads left and Campbell had to be a salesman and sell himself to those guys who ended up being huge pieces to his 2017 team.

People love to say "the grass isn't always greener", but right now in the world of Iowa State basketball, our grass is far from green. It's extremely hard to make the argument that we could be worse than what we currently are. Right now we're probably bottom 5 in all of the P5. I'll take the risk of getting a new coach if it means we could get worse and be in the bottom 3.

If last year...and a couple years before that hadn't happened... it has to be over. In a one-year COVID look, maybe a person could come to the potential conclusion you note in that situation. But, this is just the icing on the cake, last straw on the camel's back, deck chair on the Titanic,... Seems like a great guy. The coaching has shown very clearly over time that it's not working.

If Foster and Hunter are as good as they're supposed to be, they're going to leave in 1-2 years, meaning after we have a nice little year with them, we're right back to where we started.

It's a risk you have to take. It's likely we aren't going above .500 next year no matter who is coaching and what the roster looks like...it's a full rebuild commitment.

I saw this and went to the T-rank website that often gets cited on here and ran a filter for all of the "High Major" conferences there. We are exactly the 5th worst Power 5 team (plus at least the American conference) this season.

I do think

PG - Hunter
SG - Bolton
SF - Hinson
PF - Johnson
C - Foster

with our bench and a new coach we could go above .500. The new coach is key though.

I'm surprised anyone is surprised we haven't won 2 games in a row since last season. We went from bad to terrible.

Whatever happened to the team that beat Seton Hall? I thought it gave us some hope after holding our own against good teams in the Bahamas. Might be the best game I’ve seen Conditt play.

Then they followed it up with that performance against Iowa
