After watching the "SOUL" video and reading some posts, I thought, hm, what about initially. Anyway, when CMC's hire was announced or even when you heard he was a candidate, go find your negative post [IF YOU HAD ONE] or summarize it so we all can make fun of you....just kidding. By the way, I OBVIOUSLY knew what the end result would be.:jimlad:

I honestly thought “meh”. I liked him more than Fleck, and i thought he was the best we could do at the time. But I thought the ceiling might be 7 wins at Iowa State. Very glad I was wrong about my “meh” opinion :)

You obviously don't know us at all, we LOVE a good thread about how stupid we were when something happened.

I was fine with the hire. But I was WAY wrong during his first year. I think they played UNI in the first game and it looked like the coaches had never seen a football game before. Stupid penalties, stupid time outs, it was bad. And then I was livid after the last game when Lanning didn't play at all. To be fair, Campbell brings up the not playing Lanning again West Virginia as a mistake fairly often. But obviously I didn't understand the process.

After he lost his first game to purple hawks, I thought oh great. This is gonna go no where. Then there was glimmers of hope. Then Kyle Kempt happened. He’s the mf’ing man and I would gladly apologize right to his face for ever doubting him and run through any wall made of bricks as penance.

I went bananas when we lost to UNI. Probably said "He had ONE ****ING JOB, DON"T LOSE TO UNI!!!"...blah blah blah.

And now I recognize that he's the best coach in ISU history and would love for him to retire here.

That UNI game was real bad. It wasn't that we lost, it was how we lost. But after 5 years we've realized there's a method to the madness and that Campbell teams are never great early in the year. I've accepted that.

I was ho hum with the hire and then I listened to CMC's press conference and was thrilled.

I'm with this, without knowing much about him I was meh, knew he was at least good enough to beat us with a MAC team, but beating us didn't prove much. I was thrilled after watching the first press conference. Knew he was the perfect hire. I remember being pretty mad at some of the dumb comments made after the UNI debacle. That would be a better thread to excise.

Hell find the posts after the Louisiana game.

I have a buddy who was on the team at the time, so a week after the hire I asked him what his opinion was of the new coach and he responded saying he was a night and day difference than Rhoads and that Campbell was a winner. I trusted his judgement, and expected it would be a few years before some success rolled in.

I'm not sold yet. He's still pretty young.

the only thing I can remember was thinking well let's give this a go, can't get any worse then we are already anyway.. McCarney and Rhoads, might have started the path a bit for the Cyclone faithful. but Campbell has paved the highway for ISU for the future. long live the Matt Campbell era at ISU..

Regarding the Matt Campbell era. We have had chances to get to the next level with some pretty good coaches and modest success, albeit shorterm. See Johnny Majors, 5 years coach at ISU. See Earl Bruce, 6 year here.

Now we have one of our best, if not the best ever already, coaches in Matt Campbell. 5 years and still running. He just signed another deal until 2028. The Interstate Highway is being paved!

Who's the best statue guy in the area? Is it too early to hire him/her?

In my mind, never a doubt, although who could have thunk it?

I remember people getting mad because he was bringing all his Toledo buddies along with him as assistants.

This was me. I was excited that we had a young guy with energy who seemed to want to do things the right way. I was optimistic about his success at Toledo.

But then hearing who he was bringing with him was scary. I though oh boy, young dude with his buddies and no one really with much in the way of B12 experience. I definitely had doubts.
