What's to choose? One walked out on his dream job at ISU to chase a couple other "dream jobs" he had and the other is going to be fired. The result is the same, you're looking for another head coach. It's creepy how people put Fred on a pedestal.
While the end result of finding a new coach is the same, the circumstances are entirely different.. One left to go coach the Chicago Bulls while the other is going to get fired after being the coach for the worst team in P5.

That and it seemed like Hoibergs teams had a motivation problem against bad teams in horrible arenas with 5,000 fans there.

Big Monday in Ames rolls around and you ate pretty confident they could beat anybody, the next Wednesday in Lubbock comes and you were worried about horrible losses.

Yeah, I remember Georges saying they had to stop paying attention to the name on the jersey more than once.

Are there? Like I honestly don't think anyone does. They may hate hoiberg

Oh there are plenty who dislike Hoiberg, and I just can't wrap my mind around it.

Ok, maybe they don't like Prohm over Hoiberg, but the constant need to defend Prohm is baffling. I supported Prohm as recently as the Foster commitment, but it's clear now that he's a lousy coach and has buried the program. I don't see any reason to feel bad about saying that because he's "a nice guy". Just let me vent.

It's this crap. What?! The result is the same?!

We had the most successful run in program history with Fred. In no way is the result the same. Fred is a LEGEND at ISU and always will be.

The '7 point' thing was a general theme, not one specific game or situation.

You're thinking too hard about it.

In short there was a tendency to not be very patient with the ball lateish when a quick 3 was not needed.

ISU had a few nice teams with Fred and at least there was a consistent identity so can't argue with the results overall.

A few nice teams? 3 and 4 seeds at Iowa State are rare. It was the best basketball we've ever seen.

You may be muddying defending what he has done.......to what he is doing. I don't know anyone who is saying he doing good work now. I know way too many still wanting to "re-imagine' his past.

Just chatted with our high school coaches here. They have been off the last month No practice and now back and trying to get ready for the tournament. We are the 5th biggest high school in SC. All the coaches here say how tough it is to get back on track. I really doubt JP would make a move during the pandemic but by reading these posts maybe I missed it.

good post...I don’t get the conversation about this...Fred Took a bad program and made it great, steve took the great program and made it the worst in the country

In their time here free did a good job, and steve did a bad job...no fair minded person can disagree with that

the 19 team wasn’t as fun as it should be for me personally, they were so poorly coached, and just were not fun to watch because of that. Not the players fault, steve just can’t coach, doesn’t understand the game, and can’t get his guys to play hard for him. Not a personal thing, he’s just did a terrible job in his time here. I hope he kicks ass somewhere else, but he sucked here.

Worst in the country? Holy hyperbole Batman!

From fans I know in real life, I suspect a lot of the Hoiberg haters are younger and/or jumped on the bandwagon during those years.
Fred screwed us over. But he was also unbelievable while he was here, put us back on the map and made Iowa State who they are today. I don't think hiring Fred back will fix the problems he created nor do I believe he deserves the ability to fix them.

Even with all that said, you'd have to be delusional to think that Steve Prohm is a better basketball coach than Fred Hoiberg. You'd be telling yourself a lie.

I know most fans went through the Stages of Grief when he boarded that jet to Chicago. Most made it to the "acceptance" stage by the time the 2015-16 season came around, but I think a few are clearly still stuck in the "anger" stage almost 6 years later.

Fred doesn't want your worship. It's part of the reason he left. Let him go for ***** sakes.

Let him go? It sucked he left for Chicago, but I had no ill will toward him and hoped he succeeded with the Bulls. It seems like the Hoiberg haters are the ones that needed to let it go. I'm not even endorsing Hoiberg's return. I just can't believe there are Iowa State basketball fans out there who don't like him. Given his playing and coaching success, he is probably the most influential person in program history.

That has nothing to do with me or "my worship" and everything to do with his impact on the program. It's hard to believe you can be an Iowa State basketball fan and not be a Hoiberg fan. It doesn't make any sense.
