Were in north Ankeny too and while Aldis is ok for some things like produce, some dairy and some boxed stuff, the majority of it isnt good.

My wife shops at a combo of Target, Fareway and Sams. To a much lesser extent Aldi.

We’ve probably stepped foot in a HyVee a half dozen times in the last year and it’s usually on a Sunday for a couple things or we’re looking for something off the wall that they might have.

We’ve talked about doing some more shopping at Whole Foods since they have delivery with Prime memberships now. My parents used at and they had the food at their place within a couple hours of ordering.
This is word for word for us as well.

The curse of the Market Grille. Just an absolute bomb of an idea.

Who goes to the grocery store to belly up to the bar? Seriously, what were they thinking? The TV's with sports was a good addition even though their food is overpriced and the service is pretty poor. Just go to a freaking sports bar instead.

The one I frequent in Ames removed the bath bombs quite a while back. I think maybe a lot of people (like me) complained about how overpowering they were. I had to completely avoid that section, and send Lew in for items I needed.

My husband even asked the manager to at least move them away from pharmacy because he hates picking up his own meds, but he refused and said merchandising (non grocery) items are dictated by corporate for placement. That might help my allergic reaction, but not my asthma, it starts messing with that the minute I walk in the door.

Didn’t seem to phase them in pharmacy when I had to use rescue inhaler. I go to the dentist in a neighboring town and my hygienist has a perfume allergy too. She said they are right by the pharmacy there too.

Husband works in a third town and there, they at least wrap them in plastic in the open bin.

I get tired of the employees doing other peoples' shopping getting in my freaking way with their full carts. Our Hy-Vee usually assigns newbies who are probably 16 to this task. o_O

Also, our Hy-Vee has a freaking urgent care clinic in it. YEah, that's a great idea.

This. And I always make it a point to pick up a bag of Fareway brand onion rings on my way out. There's just something about those breaded, diced onion, uniformly sized little darlings that I can't quit.
Go on...
Are they frozen for home cooking, or do they cook them there? We've been struggling to find onion rings that we can cook at home.

That would at least help me with soap bomb issue if I wanted to require urgent care every time I shopped

HyVee decided it had been too long since since they made a bizarre decision, so yesterday they announced they're adding...nail salons! I guess since they're called "The W" there are some nice co-branding opportunities with Wahlburgers.

Can't wait to see what random, destined-to-fail thing they put in their stores next. Dialysis centers? Mattress stores? Auto parts?
As someone who is in the know... the next thing is a mini DSW so you can get your shoe fix on while also getting your food fix on. This is already in the works at a couple of the quad cities stores which are being remodeled right now and will be in some of the metro area stores later this summer.

Side bar: do you ever watch the show “Love After Lockup”? One of the John’s this season lives in Cresco. He seems like he’s a white guy trying to be a Native American.

He lives next door to my buddy. They have the "Bonnie & Clyde" **** all over their cars. It's a nice neighborhood, but they're straight up white trash.

One of my friends from ISU watches Love After Lockup and was telling me about how one of the screwballs ended up in my area. It just turned out that later that day I was going over to said buddy's house and saw all the Bonnie & Clyde **** next door. They were just moving in.

I'm actually surprised it took Hy-Vee so long to wind up in Decorah. I'm from NE Iowa, and there are similar or even smaller towns up in that area that have had Hy-Vee stores for a long time (Waverly, Charles City etc)

Waverly is bigger than Decorah, I think.

I'm surprised it took this long too. Decorah, is more of a regional draw than either of those towns as Charles City is only 25 minutes from Mason City, and Waverly's like 15 from Waterloo/Cedar Falls.

Decorah is an hour from LaCrosse, 1.5 from Rochester, and 1.5 from Waterloo/Cedar Falls.

Aldi's and Fareway for me though HyVee 5 dollar pizzas on Fridays were the bomb.
