What are you talking about? He was Indiana States second winningest coach by only one game. Even when they had Larry Bird they only went to the tournament once. They were moronic to fire him.

I’m not looking for him to be head coach but I think he’d be a good former head coach to help out. Great head coaches aren’t going to be assistants so the pool you are pulling from is drastically different.

Charlie was a Romulus guy with Oats, which is a school I'm sure TJ was involved with (Dominique Buckley, Will Clyburn though he came via Utah/Marshalltown CC). Charlie was also a manager/video coordinator at Utah when Clyburn was there though that may not be too meaningful of a connection. There are random connections like that but I'd be surprised if Charlie left Oats' staff unless he just wanted to be close to home and was given some sort of aHC position.

Maybe he liked working here for Prohm. Maybe he felt like we were close to turning it. Do you judge CMC assistants the same?

Charlie was highly regarded even before coming to ISU with Clyburn. Since then, he’s been an assistant in Chicago under Fred, and was the head coach of their G-league team for 2 years. My guess is that his next gig is as a head coach of a mid-major, if not a P6.

He had 8 years there which led to his total win number. HIs winning percentage...Blah. Don't tell me its Indiana State, the bottom 2/3 of MVC is absolute crap. If you can't do better than what he did, I want nothing to do with you even as bench coach. If he is so damn good at x's o's his teams would have been better. Either he is a crappy recruiter (don't want that in an assistant) or he can recruit and can't coach his way out of wet paper bag. Hard pass

He went back to the mid-major level after McDermott left. Most of Campbell's staff are up and comers. Robinson has been around a while.

Campbell's staff also includes:
Tom Manning - Indianapolis Colts
Heacock: Purdue, Indiana

But if all of Campbell's staff stays at ISU and never gets promoted, it's probably a bad sign.

I don't know when Izzo will leave Michigan State or who their assistants are, but I'd have to imagine they push for Oats and his staff if the "being back in the home state" is a big factor, and if that happens I expect Charlie to follow him there.

I'd love a guy like Charlie Henry/Nate Loenser on the ISU staff... I think they were both on that text thread that had the NBA plays with Fred when he had his surgery. Grant Gibbs (current HC of the OKC G-league team) could be an interesting name even though there might not be any connection, but the whole Iowa native, played in the Midwest, might not hurt?

Guess you have the answers. Robinson must suck even though he's regarded by professionals actually in his industry.

Seriously what coach are you looking for as an X’s and O’s former head coach? They have to have been fired to be a former head coach which means they aren’t going to have stellar record as a head coach. Doc Sadler who I think we all like as a coach has a pretty blah head coaching record. Same thing with Bobby Lutz.

Just because someone failed as a head coach does not mean they are not a good coach and can add value. That’s not even a discussion that should be had. If we can snag a quality former head coach that can recruit and is a good coach, get him. Saban atAlabama takes former head coaches all the time as his assistants.

That seems high. But when looking at TJs record, I was surprised that McDermott floated around at almost .500.
