When Fred was hired I was cautiously optimistic. It was either going to be great or a disaster. Turned out great.

I feel much the same now, but I do not think "disaster" is in the range of outcomes. Best case, TJ duplicates the type of success we had under CFH. Exciting ball, competing for championships, great players. Worst case, its good players but underwhelming success. I don't think there is any way it will be as bad as with CSP, who was clearly not ready for the job.

One thing that gives me some optimism: current organizational intelligence within the ISU AD.
1) TJ & JP saw CFH use smart assistants to make him better. Hopefully TJ will do same. Great coaches must have great assistants. Watch this space very closely.
2) The Process. CMC has shown that "want" and "love of the game" is really important, and a 3 or 4 star with "want" is going to be much better at ISU than a one-and-done guy. Niang, Naz, Monte, Matty Ice -- all "gym rats", and I think that qualifies. Hopefully that is recognized in TJ's recruiting.

Bottom line, no one ever knows how a new hire will work out. So with TJ let's hope it works out well. See you all in Sect 236 next year!

I'm optimistic. He'll bring back most the good under Fred.

I am also very interested in his staff, that will be more telling for me.

so relieved prohm is gone
tj may not be the next tom izzo but we will be competitive and hilton will get crazy again
it was so weird hilton had such a heck of a time getting pumped in the prohm years

and the magic wands that one cold big monday was a curse, i knew that was it for a time for darkness when that happened

also turn those darn lights back on in hilton

There probably were no other options. It’s common knowledge this was going to be the move- Pollard wanted this hire the last time, and went traipsing all over the country just to be with his buddy and watch his teams. Most coaches are smart enough to know there’s nothing to be gained from being interviewed for a job you have no possibility of landing. It’s why the Rooney Rule is so idiotic and counter-productive. So when anybody, including Pollard says TJ was the best candidate available, well no ******* ****.
Hard to say that when you have no idea what other coaches were actually interested in the job.

Prediction: Caleb Grill transfers to Nebraska in order to play for Hoiberg . . . and then Hoiberg gets canned!
Grill then grad transfers to Drake, and ala Clayton Custer, takes the Bulldogs to the final four.

Ok. Just guess my take was different. Its not like he can 'leak' any of those names or the behind-the-scenes process when we still had our coach. He clearly pointed out that consideration of 'possible' candidates, and communications were happening for some time due to the apparent and needed upcoming change. I guess you either believe him that TJ was the best 'fit' or you don't. I choose to believe him. If that's blind loyalty on my part, then so be it. (Admittedly, I really wanted Fred but NEVER thought it would happen.)
With transfers already flying around fast and furious, it was imperative to give our new coach as much time as possible.
He made it clear that there were two things going on in parallel - a deep dive on what it would be like if TJ was hired, and a review of other candidates. JP just told us all that he was going to hire TJ come hell or high water, but just in case it didn’t work out they were doing due diligence on other guys.

If he comes in and says ISU is his dream job I'll believe it more from jump than when Fred said it.

So, having listened to JP's video, it's apparent that TJ was the only choice. I find it interesting that when JP says, and I'm paraphrasing, that one candidate had more knowledge, was very prepared, and the most ready to take the job... Well no f'ing kidding, JP knew in January this move was coming, it doesn't take a detective to figure out that JP probably gave his buddy a head's up and topics to focus on..

There were no other formal interviews. JP said it himself, they treated everyone else differently than TJ after the inquiries to gauge interest from "candidates." Hey, JP, you're the AD, hire who the hell you want, but don't blow smoke up our behinds with the idea this was an open job search.

Username checks out.

Couldn't agree more. If Pollard thinks he's the best for the job, that's all that needs said. But there was definitely a lot of smoke being blown in both of his videos.
