Hard to say that when you have no idea what other coaches were actually interested in the job. There probably were no other options. It’s common knowledge this was going to be the move- Pollard wanted this hire the last time, and went traipsing all over the country just to be with his buddy and watch his teams. Most coaches are smart enough to know there’s nothing to be gained from being interviewed for a job you have no possibility of landing. It’s why the Rooney Rule is so idiotic and counter-productive. So when anybody, including Pollard says TJ was the best candidate available, well no ******* ****.
Grill then grad transfers to Drake, and ala Clayton Custer, takes the Bulldogs to the final four.Prediction: Caleb Grill transfers to Nebraska in order to play for Hoiberg . . . and then Hoiberg gets canned!
Standard JP stuff.Basically what he said (reading between the lines). Nobody else worth a damn wanted it, TJ is cheap and wants to be here.
He made it clear that there were two things going on in parallel - a deep dive on what it would be like if TJ was hired, and a review of other candidates. JP just told us all that he was going to hire TJ come hell or high water, but just in case it didn’t work out they were doing due diligence on other guys.Ok. Just guess my take was different. Its not like he can 'leak' any of those names or the behind-the-scenes process when we still had our coach. He clearly pointed out that consideration of 'possible' candidates, and communications were happening for some time due to the apparent and needed upcoming change. I guess you either believe him that TJ was the best 'fit' or you don't. I choose to believe him. If that's blind loyalty on my part, then so be it. (Admittedly, I really wanted Fred but NEVER thought it would happen.)
With transfers already flying around fast and furious, it was imperative to give our new coach as much time as possible.
Appreciate it lol. I thought it’d make people on all sides of this hire laugh.Ok. This is great. Well done. I needed a good laugh with how much of a cesspool these threads can become.
Everyone keeps saying Caleb Grill is coming to ISU with TJ, so I whipped up this quick photoshop.
What do you think?

So, having listened to JP's video, it's apparent that TJ was the only choice. I find it interesting that when JP says, and I'm paraphrasing, that one candidate had more knowledge, was very prepared, and the most ready to take the job... Well no f'ing kidding, JP knew in January this move was coming, it doesn't take a detective to figure out that JP probably gave his buddy a head's up and topics to focus on..
There were no other formal interviews. JP said it himself, they treated everyone else differently than TJ after the inquiries to gauge interest from "candidates." Hey, JP, you're the AD, hire who the hell you want, but don't blow smoke up our behinds with the idea this was an open job search.
Couldn't agree more. If Pollard thinks he's the best for the job, that's all that needs said. But there was definitely a lot of smoke being blown in both of his videos. So, having listened to JP's video, it's apparent that TJ was the only choice.
