IMO, a decent coach whose system didn't work as well with the 4 and 5 stars.
Interesting point. My thought with him at VCU always seemed to be "Man these guys are tenacious and well-coached" and at UT it was always, "How can they not be more competitive with the recruiting classes they have?". They had a string of good 4 and 5-star rim protectors / lob-dunkers that went to the NBA.

This help us with the chance at Kaluma or hurt us? Will be interesting to see who Texas brings in and if they will go after Kaluma being from Texas and all.

Would LOVE that! Bring TT back down to earth. UT has been and will always be the same
Rick Barnes had 2 teams in 17 years win LESS than 20 games. These were his first year at Texas and also the 2012-13 team which was the only year he didn't make the NCAA tourney. His tournament results include a Final Four, 2 Elite Eights, and 2 Sweet Sixteens.

Shaka Smart has had 2 teams win MORE than 20 games in his 6 years at Texas. Made the tourney 3 times and was upset in the 1st round every time. Zero tournament wins for the university with the biggest budget and probably most name recognition.

If I were an obnoxious Texas fan I'd be done with Smart too and would assume Beard would jump at the offer and elevate the team.

This doesn't seem like a good thing for us recruiting the state of Wisconsin..
Yeah and not to mention Texas could potentially replace him with an upgrade. Wouldn't actually be that hard honestly. Kind of a double whammy going on for ISU here.

Me either. But doubts about the coach isn’t well received ;)
I believe the Texan saying about his time at UT would be "All hat (hair?!) and no cattle."

He was the hot guy when he left VCU, but what has he done as coach at UT, other than recruit 4 & 5-stars and underwhelm? Heck, I had my questions about TJ too, but I wouldn't be more excited about Shaka.

I don’t know if we have really gone H2H with Marquette on the trail for HS kids? Even when TJ was here, we mostly just took the guys that wanted out of Marquette. Marquette is a pretty niche school with no football and located in a pretty ****** area. I think Wisconsin kids know this. Last year they had ONE wisconsin native on the team. I don’t think Shaka Smart changes anything really. It’s not 2013.

Texas must have told Smart he was out, so a smooth transition for him.
