This help us with the chance at Kaluma or hurt us? Will be interesting to see who Texas brings in and if they will go after Kaluma being from Texas and all.
I’m guessing the Kaluma ship sailed with Nunn

I don’t know if we have really gone H2H with Marquette on the trail for HS kids? Even when TJ was here, we mostly just took the guys that wanted out of Marquette. Marquette is a pretty niche school with no football and located in a pretty ****** area. I think Wisconsin kids know this. Last year they had ONE wisconsin native on the team. I don’t think Shaka Smart changes anything really. It’s not 2013.

Don't disagree with you on the lack of prior Marquette recruiting battles. My bigger concern is that Shaka has recruited the midwest while at Texas, and I would anticipate he will make than an even bigger focus now. That certainly doesn't help TJ's plan of focusing on the midwest, who knows how much it will hurt. Regardless of his W-L at Texas, Shaka is still a well-known name, with lots of energy and a "player's coach" reputation. Now he is going back home, at a job that is maybe better suited for his program style.

Hope we can get our share of top kids from MN, WI, IL, IA, as well as MI, MO, NE, SD. Throw in the new coach at Minny and there will be some tough recruiting battles in the coming years!

Shaka was remarkably consistent year-to-year in producing rather good but never truly great teams at both VCU and Texas despite the mammoth differences between the two schools and Richmond/Austin.

Considering the situation in Marquette, I bet they would be pretty please if they just kind of hung around the Top 25 but never broke through to much more. Seems to be Shaka's level of incompetence.

Just got this news. Feels like an early April fools joke. What a downgrade in both job and probably salary too.

This is a few years old information(back after Buzz left), but I remember reading somewhere that Marquette is the highest spending athletic department in the nation that doesn't have a football program. I do agree it is a downgrade in job, but I wouldn't be surprised if salary is somewhat comparable.

The school values their basketball. Plus Shaka is back in his home state now. I never thought Shaka was that great but I think he will have them hovering around top 25 due to recruiting. Get a sweet 16 once and he should be safe for a while.

Iowa State was previously recruiting this kid pretty hard. Now that TX has a new coach. Maybe we can get him to flip out of his NLI

This kid is from Iowa and also committed to Shaka. Would love to flip him as well

Maybe both prefer Big 12 play over the Big East. Could be some DIAMONDS for COTZ
