Oh, I have no doubt hockey at ISU would be mega-popular and an arena would packed and crazy. Super crazy and fun. Think Hilton on steroids crazy fun. But it's a mega-buck investment.

If you get BTN, I think those hockey games are televised on Friday nights. Huge, noisy crowds all over that conference.

When I was in college, the hockey matches were packed. Baseball was pretty thin and it was free unlike hockey. Did hockey fall off that much?

No, it’s exactly the same. tOSU women’s hockey out draws baseball. Baseball
Is outside in ****** weather for midwest teams. It’s not fan friendly at all.

How feasible would it be to renovate Hilton to accommodate hockey? Several pro arenas have NBA and NHL games in same building.

Also could we play at Wells Fargo arena in Des Moines?

Baseball would be a non-starter for the reasons you state. It would be a challenge just to become average IMO.

Hockey is intriguing, but I'd emphasize soccer first. Unless there's another sport with even better growth in participation. Not a huge capital requirement. Becoming nationally competitive (ie top half of B1G) seems plausible. It's also a good long term hedge against the possibility that interest in football peaks.

I would advise against that. Those combo arenas are horrible for basketball. The baseline seats are flat and so far away from the court.

I will say that the PAC is in better shape than the ACC most likely. Shorter time period until their deal is up. With ESPN wanting the B12 blown up, I can see the ACC being pushed to take WV. Also makes me slightly nervous about WV. Hope they are smart and understand that their only path to the ACC is still bending OU and UT over for some money to allow everyone out in a more timely manner.
Better, yes, but that’s a horribly low bar. But worse in the sense that the PAC has the biggest problem where it really counts, and that is people dont care about and watch their games. People look at their media deal compared to the other leagues and think they failed to negotiate a good deal. That’s just not true. Their product as media simply isn’t worth that much because people don’t watch. They either need to do something drastic to get people to watch or hope that someone like Amazon is going to pay well above market to get into the space.

Thought someone said that we could add a men's sport and not have to add a women's one right away. I would guess it would be a swimming/diving, soccer, or tennis type sport that we already have some facilities for and not have to build something.

If it happened we wouldn't be getting a full payout for a while (if ever) so no we should not be adding anything. But if we did, yes, it should be something we already have facilities for.

Honestly I would rather play Iowa in week 2. Good tailgating weather and less competition for big games.

The only other ranked matchup right now (might have missed one) is Oregon vs OSU and that's in the early timeslot.

Umm an Iowa vs Iowa St matchup on black Friday would be absolutely amazing. This would be like dumping a tanker truck of gasoline onto the rivalry.

Couldn't Hockey be at minimum a break even revenue sport?

Because they don't want to step on the Alliance news. I fully expect they will say they aren't expanding now. I don't think anyone will so much as suggest anything is happening until, at the earliest, UT and OU make some move toward leaving for the SEC earlier than 2025. Which unfortunately means that this is likely going to be uncomfortable for months, maybe even into 2022, and maybe even longer than that if UT/OU decide SEC in 2022 is too expensive and they need to wait for 2023.

The Pac, B1G, and ACC can certainly cone out and say that they are open to expansion. That isn't even close to tip toeing the legal lines.
