How come JP didn’t see this coming and position us appropriately?? We’ve been on a perp walk/death March since the last time Texas threatened this back in what, 2009/2010???

We are saddled with debt that we may not be able to repay. We may require a taxpayer bailout. I fear for our D1 status. We can’t afford to cut any sports. We need a revenue injection or it’s going to be difficult to compete.

We did everything possible to be in a better position.... What more do you want?

We are upgrading stuff, because in the past no one did, and our facilities were on par with some G5 teams.

We are trying to find new ways of revenue, including building an entertainment district. Which, after being in Lincoln a few weeks ago for a concert, Ames badly needs.

JP did all this to position us...

One good thing is all the inside scoops we have been getting from Iowa State are that everything will be fine.

I think fine could just as easily mean we are gonna get more $$$ from Amazon than people think and we’re adding Cincinnati and UCF. Which is still fine IMO with an expanded CFP.

Agreed about the hockey rink (if we ever upgrade from the club level). I think if an entertainment district is going to work, it will need to have as many events as possible in it's immediate area, so any new facilities that will hold fans should be built around it. Also need a few hotels.

We are not building an Entertainment District. Things have changed.

I think this agreement is two things, they won't steal from each other (ie USC to the B1G, UVA to B1G) and they're in agreement the SEC as a whole is evil. I don't think they care if OuT pays up.

I think they do care if OuT pays up - I think they want the SEC to feel as much pain and humiliation as possible over this, and part of that is ensuring the Big 12 is compensated to the greatest extent possible, especially if/when they’ll be taking these teams in the future.

The more we get from OU and ut, the less they may need to pay us on entry. Plus, to send message to them.

This should have been a contingency in any SWOT analysis. I don’t have any faith that this was considered given the financial risks he has taken. That is inexcusable!!

Clearly you don't understand that JP has been spending money in order to put Iowa State in the right place for when this did come around.

Ya, I doubt it. ACC and PAC must do something. Their contacts are terrible.

There is no way the PAC can stay idle because they have ran out of ways to grow. IMO people are also underestimating the Fox influence in all of this. If/when the Big 12 blows up, they will need the tv inventory but they also need to keep the BTN viable or that starts to hemorrhage money. There will be valuable timeslots up for grabs and when you get down to it, I don't think Iowa State or Kansas costs the other schools money.

Kind of the point I was trying to make. The more compensation squeezed out of OuT, the less likely any of these schools will be in a financial situation similar to Rutgers upon entry into any of these other conferences. Probably yet another one of the regrets the Big 10 has about Rutgers.
