HyVee's big new stores are really attractive. They just built one in Austin, MN. But the Market Grille is a bust, does very little business. I'm 2 miles from the HyVee in Albert Lea, and I go there only a few times a year. Get much better value at ALDI. And ALDI knows how to run checkout.

They’re building Dollar Fresh stores like crazy and we are getting one in Monticello. We can’t wait until they open as Fareway needs some competition

I can't wait to try out the new system they have in place where you can just scan as you go and pay. Although knowing HV, they'll find a way to screw it up.

I’m not close enough where any of that will affect me and actually only care because of the wine and spirits department. No more having to drive to Urbandale for good beer.

I can see the HyVee from my house. And my route home goes by the HyVee. Just going to have to be patient tonight, I guess. But I agree on the good beer. Fareway has an OK selection, but they are limited on space. I'm looking forward to having good craft beer options within a five-minute drive.

Sams Club has had it for a while. Zero issuers from my experience.

At least you can plan ahead a bit on this. Having a neighbor shooting off fireworks on a random night during the summer gets frustrating.

Grand opening is tonight. With food trucks and fireworks. Thank goodness for white noise machines.

The official grand opening for the store is the 14th actually but yes they are going to have food trucks and fireworks tonight. I can see the front of the store from my driveway so I'm in a tough spot wanting to get to bed early tonight with wanting to be in Ames when the tailgate lots open as I should have a great view for the fireworks and will likely hear them going off if I was in bed at 10 anyways. May just watch the start of them then head inside after about 5 mins or so because it's going to be short night!

Don’t shop Hy vee as much, They have way to much going on that eats into profit margins IMO. Aldi has it figured out the best IMO. Fareway is still good. I shop at wheats field, Aldi, Hy vee, and Fareway.

I'm hoping this takes some of the pressure off of the Urbandale store a little bit. That store can get crazy busy and the parking lot is a circus. I used to frequent that location because my wife worked there for a number of years but found myself going to Fareway or Aldi just to avoid the crowd

Word on the street is our local HyVee is nearly all self check now. Also nothing but prepackaged meat, no meat counter.

I quit walking in the place when I got hives from the soap bombs in addition to the usual asthma trigger

That's a really bad idea IMO.

Food trucks? Wouldn't it make more sense for HyVee to grill outside/have their own food?

I drove through the lot last night on my way to Culvers and they had a HyChi food truck out front so I would guess they will have some of their own Hy-Vee brand options along with some other food trucks. Have to realize they are new to the Grimes community so its makes perfect sense to play nice with the local food trucks and offer them a chance to participate in the event.

That being said I need to check out the new Mema's brick and mortar store soon. Love that food truck and glad they opened up an actual store now in town. Example of how if you do things right and have a good product you can expand your business to more than just a food truck.

My wife has sensitive skin and bad allergies. She won't even walk near the bath bomb area and will walk around the store to avoid it.

I don't have any of those issues and I try to avoid that section as well. The scents are too overwhelming. And I don't understand why HyVee added that.

Their meatball subs are the best in the DM metro IMO. Have not had a bad thing from their food truck. The baked ravioli is pretty good too. They plan to start doing pizza too which I plan to try

Yes, can’t wait until Mema’s get settled in and offers their expanded menu. Their meatball sub and toasted raviolis are *chef’s kiss*.
