The ACC doesn't need Clemson to win, they need Miami, Florida St, and Va Tech to pull their heads out of their a$$es. Clemson alone doesn't lift the ACC, they need some serious help.
Can you even name their current head coaches? Or quess which of them have winning records?

Why would that change anytime soon?

they aren't wrong about the conference

if you don't think ISU is looking for a life boat out of this new conference you are on drugs
Very interesting to assess the negative vs positive emoticons. Pretty evenly split. Your patronizing aside, any/all schools are always looking for their best interests. And, as so many have argued on this site, the variables are too dynamic at this point to reach a conclusion. And, even more so, the period of 'assessing' the decision will vary widely. So, let's check back on your position in 5,10, and 15 years and see where things are at.
Thanks for proving my point.
I think he said you were an idiot.
Why? Because it's not the end of the world as we know it? Or, more specifically, as he paints it? Ok then.
Either. And bannedman is not an idiot. I didn't mean to say it or imply that you might have.
People really overstate the strength of the Big 12 going forward. KU is one of the worst in d1 college football, Tech and TCU are going to be pretty poor going forward, West Virginia is not great, Houston is having a great year but they haven’t played anyone and still got dominated by a bad Tech team, Cincinnati won’t always be top 10, UCF is looking pretty average lately. We can pretend like all of that is so much better than the PAC 12 and ACC, but in reality it really isn’t.

With the new schedules, if a team from the Pac 12, ACC, and Big 12 go undefeated, who do you think it more likely to make the playoff and be higher ranked? Heck, Oregon is getting more respect than Oklahoma this year and they even have 1 loss. That respect isn’t going to be helped when Texas and OU leave.

Also, it’s hard not to believe that our recruiting is only going to get tougher. Our selling point of you get to play OU and Texas every year goes away. That is going to hurt some.
This thread is so disappointing. I keep clicking on it thinking there will be more wonderfull Texas tears that we can all enjoy together, and instead it has turned into another tired conference debate, as if these same points haven't been made countless times in all the other threads that have gotten hijacked by this subject.
I get what people might be saying about what the Big12 might become. I'll go make some popcorn.

It should be a fun atmosphere in Hilton this year when Texas comes to town. The S-E-C chants will drive them bevo!

According to the Baylor 365 show on Youtube (good show BTW which covers all the B12) they said that when TCU and Utah moved up to P5 conferences their recruiting profile ranking dramatically improved as a result. From the 60s to the 30s for the most part for those 2 programs. Point being they new Big 12 members have a shot to be very formidable from time to time.

Cincy should really have great recruiting now. They didn't think it would help BYU much, but they generally are ok. Perhaps Houston has some runs like TCU did. Surely won't hurt UCF.

Nobody is going to replace OU, but Texas has been dead weight for 10+ years. In a way I think the Big 12 may be stronger at 12 than it is at 10 now. Will be interesting to see how the conference schedule plays out.

maybe in practice but not necessarily in perception by media and fans. Perception is reality and Fox and ESPN can make us perceived as however they want.
Money will be monumentally different from SEC/B1G. People are trying to down play it, but when we're getting 35 mil, SEC and B1G getting 80-100 mil won't take long for that to show up on the field. Not to mention the media bias.

The added money certainly provides advantages, but not as much as you might think. Our athletic department budget is already only a fraction of Texas's budget, and yet we've beat them three years in a row.

I said it way before all of the back door dealings ESPN did with the SEC but they have had WAY too much skin in the game ever since the 4 team format started. They have played a critical role in getting certain teams bumped up in the rankings because they want the TV numbers. Their little Tuesday night ranking show has been a valuable mouthpiece to get certain teams bumped up. Going to 8 or 12 would correct a lot of this and college football needs the parity. It can't be all about 6 teams every year. Worst case scenario, you starting spreading the money around and that would be a good thing.
They got their dream matchup in the championship game last year and the ratings were terrible. You really need to wonder how long it will be until they figure out that they've alienated 80% of the country to push their narrative.

I'm definitely not on a ledge like I was in July, especially with playoff expansion being likely, but yes if the Big Ten calls us in 2024 we are absolutely jumping without even thinking.

- Much higher payouts long term
- All divisional/pod away games within driving distance - IC, Madison, Minny, Lincoln, Lawrence, U-C, Chicago

Conferences are judged by the strength of the teams at the top. With 12 teams, I think 3 or 4 would be nationally competitive most years. If the playoff remained at four teams, we would only occasionally be represented. With 8 teams, I think we would get an automatic bid and be competitive to get a second team in some years. There are a lot of variables, probably most importantly whether all the teams will be committed to funding and supporting competitive programs. I think we could be competitive with the ACC and PAC

Ok, now imagine all the SEC and all the B1G making Texas money.
