For the record, I think it would be a very bad move for Matt to leave for one of these jobs. His philosophy and culture is exactly that of ISU's athletic Department under Jamie. He could coach here for the next 20 years and make $100 million and be iconic to a school and fanbase. He could go to an LSU or Florida and flop and be out of that job in 2-3 years and who knows where your career goes from there.

Fred isn't doing so well since he left Ames.. (maybe monetarily)..
If he goes to a Penn State, Florida, or LSU he could probably sign a $40+ million contract all while earning what $18 million at Iowa State or more and whatever he made at Toledo. I think he will financially be fine if he fails and probably lives modestly anyways.

As someone else said, he doesn’t leave somewhere thinking he will fail.

I don't think he'd care what people think (he's very committed to his way/culture/process)

I don't think CMC would care...but the AD will! I mean...an AD that is on rock solid footing might not care much...but most ADs don't want to risk angering the fans to the point it puts them on the hot seat!

I hope Coach Campbell stays but if he leaves for what I'm sure will be a great opportunity I wouldn't blame him. I'm not going to have a meltdown over it like I think some will.

Thanks for what he has done for the program and I think Pollard will be in a good position with where our program is support & facilities wise to find a very good candidate for the job.

If his results are similar at Penn State (7/8 wins) they won't accept it.

I think it's a tight community so that would appealing I'd guess.

Who would expect that Campbell would win 7-8 games a year at Penn State? He could win 7-8 games there right now with the program he has at ISU. With their brand and resources, they should expect more.

Here's why I'm not worried...this is the absolute worst time in the history of history for ISU to lose Matt Campbell. ISU football is beset on all sides with some new and scary sh*t: the transfer portal, NIL, realignment, a juiced and asymmetrical facilities arms race...

If the ISU AD has to give until it hurts badly they'll do it to keep Matt at least for some period of time until CFB calms down a bit. If Matt goes we could be in serious trouble.

I believe this offseason is the most likely he is to leave. If he doesn't, he'll be here for the long haul.

Yep. And I don't think any job currently open this year fits what he would be looking for, which IMO is a place he can build a "culture". Likely somewhere in the Midwest. Again, IMO the only schools he would leave for are OSU, ND, maybe PSU. That's about it. Rumors about LSU, USC, Florida, TCU are nuts. Could see him making the jump to the NFL if the Browns ever call. I think a lot of people underestimate how much he loves that franchise. He's a diehard.

Not a coincidence there is a lot of selling of Aranda and Napier (i.e. their agents are likely the sources and they want to position their guys as best as possible) and Matt Campbell's write up is basic and only talks about his record and salary.

I’m curious if the people you are talking to THINK this year would be a year that he’d listen vs they actually know he’s going to listen this year.

It makes all the sense in the world to assume he’d think about leaving this year. And that should worry every donor.

But I’m curious if there is more than it.

All the above reasons are why someone would be worried, other institutions with much more money that passes what would "hurts badly" for ISU could come to the table.

Football scoop that has a lot of "in's" with the Coaching community said recently on a podcast that they think Campbell is the guy LSU wants as well. We shall see...

I think it’s a job you have to at least look at, unless you coach at Alabama Georgia Ohio state etc.

I don’t know if he would have the level of absolute control at an lsu or Penn st as he does in Ames. Hopefully, that is enough to make him say no to those schools

If I'm Campbell, why wouldn't you listen this cycle? There are 3 Top 10 jobs open right now. At the very minimum, he can leverage it for more here at ISU (whether for him or for his assistants). If any one of us was in as much demand as he is, we would be idiots for not at least listening to other more lucrative opportunities. Now actually taking another opportunity is a different story.

But why wouldn't he listen?

It'll be interesting what happens to Baylor. The Tech guy who came on here and posted for a little bit alluded to the fact that Tech's new coach had a great deal with Baylor's success under Rhule and Aranda. If I can recall from those posts, McGuire is well respected in the Texas High School ranks and thus, a reason for their recruiting and success.

McGuire is an absolute legend in Texas high school football circles.

techs biggest problem is they’re never going to get guys UT and A$M want, they aren’t alone there

problem is they have consistently lost out on the next tier to the other similar schools (baylor, tcu, smu, and Houston). He will give them a real chance to get a bigger share of those kids

Because it hurts my feelings and I don't like that.
