I think TJ deserves all the credit for instilling into his players the mindset that has made them such a tenacious defensive team, emphasizing toughness, physicality, and effort. But I also think coach Green deserves a lot of credit for helping to implement the techniques of great defense. He was probably the smartest hire TJ has ever made.

I knew the Green hire was huge at the time, but didn't realize how huge it was until now. I really wonder how long we'll be able to hang on to him. He's been in the game a long time - I wonder if he has head coaching aspirations.

It is interesting that Blount and Robinson are completely dismissed in this thread. Assume this was a team effort amongst the staff to get the guys playing like this.

Not trying to discount them at all. Just noting the similarities between the way our team plays defense and that of those fundamentally sound UNI teams we all hated playing. Surely all the coaches deserve credit.

During the broadcast last night did anyone catch the name of the coach Fran mentioned as being an inspiration for where Otz gets his coaching philosophy?

I would hope Otz learned a lot as a head coach at SDS and UNLV since being here as an assistant. We get the more experienced Otz by hiring him now instead of right after Fred. They may be a good thing as it turns out.

I hoped Prohm had learned a lot as a Head Coach before taking the Iowa State job. And hoped Prohm would learn even more at Iowa State. I was wrong. We didn’t understand that TJ was the best person for the job when we hired Prohm. Now we do.

New bracketology. Looky looky.

Fun!

Figured ISU might arrive on a bracket soon, figured it'd be closer to bubble.

Heading into season, I didn't expect to appear on any projection until maybe mid-season '23. Long way to go for this 21-22, but it's neat to be non-invisible for a change.

Personally I think the assistant coach situation is an even starker differential than the head coaching one. Steve for his faults did some things well. DRob pulled in the THT/Haliburton class almost singlehandedly. What did any of the other assistants on that staff do? I can't remember anything positive ever being attributed to any of them. These assistants have done more for this program in two games than the last set did in 6 years.
I totally agree with this post.
I think Prohm had terrible assistants. Could not recruit or actively coach - as far as I can tell. As noted, I think Robinson can recruit.
I think TJ hired some great coaches, and I would say that if we were 0-7.
