Went to the game. ISU frustrated the hell out of Creighton all night. Did not allow CU’s offense the establish any type of rhythm. Creighton matched ISU’s defensive intensity in the first half, but not in the second half. Very satisfying to see an ISU team this way as historically they have relied on their offense to win games. This team is totally different that what we have seen in the past, in a good way. Other trams are going to absolutely hate playing ISU this year as it’s very hard to establish any type of flow.

I keep thinking we're gonna fall at the next big hurdle and we keep jumping them. I like this

Right now, assuming Memphis, Xavier, and Creighton don't totally crumble we have a non con resume that gives us a very real chance at the tournament. Beat Iowa and that's just another tick in our favor. Feels like if those 3-4 stay good wins and we go 9-9 in conference we're in. That's of course, assuming we don't lose multiple buy games or somehow find the permutation that would give us no good wins and multiple bad losses to get to a 9-9.

Overall, I don't know what I think. I'm just very happy right now. Still probably won't be comfortable until late January or so if we're still rolling but this is fun right now

About exactly where I am.

I keep thinking they're playing with house money but they're actually just playing to win.

But yeah let's see where things are in Jan/Feb.

I don't know if Chase Allen is a basketball player, but he definitely has the size and length and hands to defend and rebound which is all we would need him to do.
Since his Dad Terry coached at Missouri State (Springfield, MO), near where we live, they lived in Nixa, MO, a suburb. Chase was very good in BB and of course FB for Nixa High School.

They lose to Iowa and beat Mizzou that's 12-1 in the non con. An 8-10 conference record gets them 20-11. Outside of injuries I don't see this team losing 10 games in the conference. So that is over 20 wins not including anything in the conference tourney.

I agree. We are in position to threaten the record for biggest improvement in wins year over year in college basketball history.
I believe that record currently stands around 20. Can anyone confirm.

So I wasn't necessarily a fan of the TJ hire (mainly because of the way Pollard handled it) but at this point I'm willing to admit I was wr...I was wro...wron... just a little Fonzie humor for you old timers...

Seriously, it's fun to watch basketball again. And the fact that actual defense is being played for the first time since maybe the Eustachy era is freaking amazing.

That was a game that even Hoiberg teams would've lost if they weren't hitting their shots because they didn't play defense.

I'm completely surprised at how this team is playing under TJ. Now if he can somehow beat Iowa then I am all freaking in.

I wouldn't count them out just yet. The talent is there to be very good. Now whether Penny can get from point A to point B with those youngsters is the question.

Their next 3 are Murray State, Alabama and Tennessee. They are losing at least 2 of those. We’re talking about a .500 team with at least one horrible loss.

Anyway…doesn’t matter. I was just being an ass.

I seached a little more on Chase Allen's HS BB career. He was of course 6'7", was an all-state BB player for Nixa in fact.
"Overall, All-Staters include: Ken Magers, Danny Halbrook, Randy Towe, Lee Wilder, Kent Russell, Shelly Sellers, Randy Pogue, Kevin Cheffey, Bob Collier, David Dye, Anthony Welcome, Zach Towe, Kevin Bartow, Zach Towe, Glennon Hayes, Royce Moore, Zac Hill, Jalen Norman, Austin Ruder, Kameron Bundy, Jacob Ruder, Chase Allen and Christian Bundy."

Perhaps someone from Ames could tap on his shoulder?

Let's see... Pollard hires a firm and does a lengthy coaching search with lots of names floated out there and you end up with McDermott, Chizik, and Prohm. Pollard goes and gets his guy and you get Campbell, Hoiberg, and Otz. Not sure where Rhoads fits in to this, but I think more the latter. Still, give me Pollard getting his guy over a lengthy search any time.

Wish we had one more big man to get through Big 12. Hopefully King gets a waiver.

Maybe a football player can join the team? Chase Allen?
It’s time for the annual “what football player can we add to play forward?” debate. I’ll save everybody the time, the best player on the football team that could play forward would get destroyed by Rob Jones. Destroyed. So the answer is there is not a soul on the football team that could serve as anything more than a practice body.

It was more the way Pollard was trying to blow smoke up people's asses by saying he was going to take his time and do his due diligence by talking to multiple prospects when he clearly had TJ already hired.

But it seems to have worked out so good for him...

Really gritty game, showed we don’t necessarily need Gabe or Brockington to go off to beat a good opponent. Jones is there to play defense, scrap, rebound, get put backs and dunks. He made some mistakes tonight that he hopefully learns. Bring on Iowa!

First IB, then Gabe, and now Caleb. We have a real team on our hands with guys taking turns stepping up.
So happy for TJ and staff, and of course, Caleb "Always wanted to be Cyclone" Grill.
More like Caleb "I always wanted to play for TJ" Grill. If I remember, he originally committed to TJ at SDState. He knew what TJ had...

After seeing the highlights, that was a gritty, well deserved win. I work with a pretty big Creighton fan. Looks like he won’t have too much to say on Monday.

Actually it looks like it's good for cyclone fans. Bad for Pollard haters.
