It's the passion the fanbase has, the sense of community, and the underdog status. That will always be what makes ISU special.
All before NIL.Unless that can be monetized into some NIL for players, that is largely mitigated.

I agree though, the AD needed to get out in front of this, instead we are playing catchup

But wait, how do we know all these decomitment
if he’s gonna get paid and that’s best for him and his family then go do your thing young man.

ISU needs to adapt or survive, the players have the power now. For every Isheem there could be a Breece or a Brock or a Kolar who decide to stay here for reasons that we can control and that is what we should do
There's no adapting for ISU. Sorry. People need to realize that if you think the days of uneven TV coverage and larger scholarship limits made it hard for ISU to compete, those motivators are jack **** compared to actual cash, which ISU won't be able to compete with a majority of P5 teams. Directly or indirectly donors, media $ and athletic revenue are going to be the drivers of success in an unregulated free for all.

Money isn't everything. I would say the bigger issue is the fact that a lot of these kids playing sports are coming from backgrounds that force them to chase the money over a true college experience.

Money far more important than anything else though.

fan support and all that other stuff is nice when if you're not passing up cash. But now, most would play in front of less fans for 50k

I encourage you to read up studies on the effect of money. Yes it has an impact, but it has its limits.

Sure hope our coaching staff isn’t giving up like this!

and the answer isn’t to go back to the world where the players get zero compensation either. The new world is better than the old even if it means the big boys have a new advantage. If Isheem can make NIL money and his goal is to maximize that then he should have the ability to do so.

And alot of people on here thought NIL WAS a good thing for college sports.
No, good for college athletes. Which it is.

It will hurt Iowa St, but that is largely irrelevant to the system at large. even if left unchecked, there will be more money for MBB and CFB players.

lol. Are you saying this from you mid-life, suburban iowa crisis?

I encourage you to go spend some time with 18-23 year olds, many from backgrounds in which earning an extra 20k-100k a year is a BIG deal. There are numerous places in which they can get both. And if picking one, money will be a winner in a HUGE majority

I think you missed what I said ealier about the environments they are coming from. Of course it's important when you have little. But there are limits.

The idea of the NIL was great, the way it’s being taken advantage of is not. Offering a deal to someone to come to a school shouldn’t be aloud. Some of the outrageous numbers being thrown around also shouldn’t be aloud. I originally liked it when I heard players could sell their stuff/autographs and basic things like that.

It might settle down in a few years when the people signing the checks start getting tired of paying for busts, or players that leave after a year or two for a better deal. It will always be an issue going forward without some rules added, but I think it will just be the Wild West instead of the wild Wild West like we will see these first few years.

What about our 5-star culture? Or is that just a promotional slogan.
Yeah that still stands as long as coaches stay intact. I suppose we just won't get 5 or 4 stars and keep on developing the 3 stars until they are awesome and get paid higher elsewhere. As some have said maybe just need to look to the transfer portal. ISU isn't the only one with this problem.

Yes, he should be able to. It doesn’t change the fact that the new world of college football will be brutal for ISU to compete. Both things are completely true.

I love that people think a kid getting even $5k or $10k is just going to be a “disadvantage” let alone something like the Texas OL deal. Much less money totally shifted power in FCS.
