Or…. if you can’t block…. you need to get creative to find ways to move the ball.

Like…. don’t do a 7 step drop and hold the ball when you know you don’t have time to do that.

I mean, the 3-step drop quick-hitting screens have only been working all game. I mean, I know you can't just live on that, but it does give the idea that there are things that are working.

All things being equal our OL has not been brutal given we have shuffled them around against a great front. Pass protection has been bad but we've run the ball... OK. Not great but really the idea that we'd run great probably wasn't based in reality.

While Brock has been getting pressure I'd like to see a roll out or sprint out - also I'd like for him to step into a throw. I know the pressure is coming thru quick but there are very few QB's in the history of football with the arm strength to deliver accurate, strong throws as they start to fall away from pressure. It may - hopefully not - lead to a pick at some point.

But that;s not the issue IMO... we need to incorporate roll outs and sprint outs. They are hugely helpful to an offensive linemen

Just meant Purdy may be amped up or have happy feet at times with a makeshift OL - so I need to temper my expectations, nothing more. OL were not at fault for that specific play.
Understood and I agree with you - that is probably what happened. My point is that for a 4 year starter.... I don't give him that. If this was year one or two - yes. But with all the football Brock has seen - he is more than aware he needs to stand in and make that throw.

I'm not blaming him for having happy feet - its one of those mind over body things.

Defense playing like ****
Uh - not really? Again.... this is a program that has been to six straight playoff appearances, arguably one of the best programs in the nation, yes, one that has had a lot of turnover recently but still, the cream of the crop, even more so than oregon last year.

I'm looking for competitiveness, growth and flashes and in an ideal situation - a victory but I want to see how the team, especially the guys coming back, respond to facing literally one of the "big dogs" of the sport

And we've given up what, 6 points, zero touchdowns when our offense has run 18 fewer plays? Sure, some of that is on the defense not getting off the field on 3rd down but the offense also has not sustained many drives.

I'm not happy being down but other than a few plays - that half went more or less about as good as I think it could have all things being equal
