Eisworth's exact quote below. I take it to apply more to the football players themselves, and I can see that. If you go 1-10, are you proud to wear ISU football gear and be associated with that team. I mean, broad picture, EVERY player that makes a D1 team is extremely talented and should be proud, but as fans we always want more.

This site is CycloneFANATIC so it stands to reason that most of those "some people" aren't the ones on CycloneFANATIC.

We can all agree that you see a lot more Cyclone gear these days than you did years ago. So "some people" are wearing the gear today that didn't in days gone by.

Also, I don't see the word "embarrassed" in that quote.

You think people are wearing gear that didn't before, assuming that is even true, is from a reduction in embarrassment in the football program?

I wish that were true, as it means we have converted a significant amount ("a lot") of older t-shirt fans.

The fanabse has been growing for decades. Not many older fans out there now wearing ISU gear that didn't years ago because of too many losses on the football field.

I think the internet and social media has gone a long way in promoting ISU to bigger and better. I graduated in the 80's and all you had for exposure was the Des Moines Rag, and the biased pro Hok tv stations. ESPN was still finding it's legs in those days and ISU was an afterthought.

Yeah, don't think he was referring to the loyal fanbase, although in threads here, I can remember many a pregame post that referenced nut cups, kinda in the same vein as GE reference!

I have been embarrassed by Iowa State gear. Specifically, a time or two I’ve found myself wearing Iowa State socks, t-shirt, vest, and ball cap, driving around in my car with Iowa State stickers and license plate cover, and thinking, “maybe I’m taking my super-fandom a little far.”

But other than overdoing it, I am always extremely proud of my university and thankful for the education I got there. Having the sports teams continue to progress is just a great plus.

I'm not embarrassed. I wear ISU stuff all the time.
What I do find bothersome is other alums calling our players "an embarrassment" or "the team embarrassed themselves".
I've never referred to a Cyclone athlete as an embarrassment.

Never. Living in Cedar Rapids, you always get the wise-ass Hawk who will make a comment. My loyalty + allegiance to ISU goes well beyond their performance in sports.

Funny story. I was at a Kwik Star yesterday picking up a soda. I had my usual ISU hat + sweatshirt on. A young kid working for a Pepsi Distributor said "did you get your outfit at Goodwill?" He was actually pretty funny + cool. Said he was just giving me ****, and said he hoped ISU beat Clemson. For every comment like that, I probably 3 that truly are ******** and make snide comments about my ISU gear.

The only ISU related shirt I got rid of was my "Larry Ball" basketball tshirt. I light of what happened, I felt it was not appropriate to keep it.

It was CMC that took it a step further with the "embarrassed" comment.
I hope we can move on from the tavernhok type negativity and focus forward with more-- "We're not going away."

Swirl on.

Most fans on a team message board are going to be more passionate than the average fan. I am certain that average fans wear their favorite team's gear a bit less when they are losing, or after a loss. Also, if you watch player intros in the NFL, I have definitely seen players not mention their college program and go with their high school, for example. Players being proud to rep their alma mater is important, in my opinion. Winning should not be the only reason anyone should be proud of their school, but it 100% has an impact. If you don't think some recruits are affected by the win loss record and brand identity of the schools they are considering, not sure what to tell you. These comments don't bother me, even if they certainly don't apply to a good amount of us.

Sam Mack says "hi". ;)

But I get what you mean. As disappointed with a game outcome as fans may be, you have to realize that the ones that put their time, effort, body & soul into said game are likely far more disappointed. You don't put in all that effort in advance to throw a game.

How many schools have fans were it's almost guaranteed wearing Cyclone gear in any US airport will get at least 1 "Go State!" The only embarrassment I can think of in my 30 years is dumb f*** Leath crashing the plane.

I think people are getting hung up on the terminology. I think what they are trying to say is solid. The program was the laughingstock of the Big 12 more years than not. That isn't the case anymore. Whether anyone was really embarrassed or not is just details.

yeah, everyone needs to take a step back, go watch it…maybe could have been said better but it wasn’t bad what they said

The only logo clothing I wear is ISU gear. And I usually wear ISU stuff, weather a hat or shirt of some kind almost every day and have since the 80s, so no.

In Stansbury's article, both Eisworth and Campbell said not that long ago before they were here that people were embarrassed to wear a cyclone shirt or hat. I know what there trying to say but I think this comes off poorly. I've been a cyclone fan since 85-86 and I don't ever remember being embarrassed to wear anything Cyclone gear. Many times I've been disappointed or let down, but not embarrassed. I also am an alumnus so maybe that's part of the reason for me.

To me, it is kind of the pervasive attitude in society, "that nothing mattered until I showed up". I think it is somewhat disrespectful to the players and fans that have been here for awhile. Maybe its just the word embarrassed, thoughts?
I bleed cardinal and I urinate gold.

I've always been a proud Cyclone.

Even through the lean years of the 80s and 90s.

Can't tell you how many times I've shared the lore about the heroic exploits of Marvelous Marv Seiler, The Run, and Jessie Smith and the eight turnover game when I lived in Omaha.

CMC does talk down the program a bit too much for my taste. And yes it is a bit insulting to the hard core fans that have hung in there through thick and thin.

I still remember when he said he didn't think that the Cy-Hawk game was much of a rivalry. That was after his third loss to them. The significance of that loss is it allowed captain KKKirk to say, for the first time in 18 years of trying, that he had a winning record against the Cyclones.

Fry owned us. KKKirk didn't until Campbell came along.

I too bleed Cardinal (red) and my piss is yellow most of the time! LOL

Love your attitude and enthusiasm.
