Gentlemen the game of basketball is simple you out score your opponent and you win
ISU basketball is even more simple - if we make more 3s than our opponent, we win. If we don't, we lose. It's really really that simple.

I posted this in a different thread yesterday :

When ISU makes more 3-pt shots than our opponent we are 20-2
When ISU makes the same or fewer 3-pt shots than our opponent we are 2-10

there's almost no other stat that tracks W/L as closely - including 3pt percentage

for reference, that doesn't hold for Miami - they are 10-5 when making more 3s and 15-5 when making hte same or fewer.

Having kids in bed for the game is great and all until you meet the wrath of your spouse for waking them up.
Nothing worse than waking your kid up an hour or two after they went to bed, your wife is letting you deal with it, and you're 5 beers deep.

I will say that streaming services are a godsend when watching games with a baby - the ability to pause and come back after a diaper changes is invaluable

That implies you are able to stay off social media during a game, which I struggle to do.

The anticipation is building... It is going to be a looooong 10 more hours before Otzball. As others have stated this is a strength on strength matchup with ISU defensive pressure guards vs Miami's offensive strong guards. I know Tyrese/IB/Gabe will pressure the guards whether the the Canes can make contested and limit the turnovers will decide the game. ISU has played loose and with confidence during the tourney the pressure will be on the Canes IMO.

This year has already far exceeded expectations and is a wild success win or lose tonight. That said I'm not ready for this Cyclone to end.... Play hard, play smart and survive.

Let's! Go!! State!!!

PREDICITION:

When Miami has the ball: Gonna be strength on strength. Miami has a few guards that can fill it up and get out in transition. Yet ISU has some of the best defensive guards in the country (Hunter, GK, IZB). Will be a fun matchup to watch. They don't have any threatening bigs so would expect the majority of their scoring will come from their perimeter players.

When Iowa State has the ball: Miami's defense is ranked 121st in the nation... (that's 54 spots behind KState, who was rated as the worst defensive team in the B12 for some context). Even with Iowa States offensive struggles this year I think they will be able to score plenty tonight. I look for IZB to go for 20+ and get the Cyclone's to 70+, a winning number.

Overall: This will be a close game, as expected. Miami will make runs and most likely hit some tough shots. Iowa State will force them to turn it over and get them out of rhythm at times as well. One of the keys to this game will be rebounding and the Cyclones have a clear edge here. Miami is one of the WORST offensive rebounding teams on the country (ranked 318th) and they aren't much better on the defensive glass either (264th). Clones should control the boards. Another key will be fouls/FT's if the refs call it close the Iowa State may get into deep foul trouble and allow Miami to shoot a ton of FT's which isn't a great recipe.

Final: Cyclone's will have the home court advantage and really have an opportunity to come out and be the aggressor. If they do so, and I think they will, behind their tenacious defense and IZB's leadership, they will be headed to the Elite 8.

Score: ISU 74 - Miami 67

Staying out of foul trouble will be key, especially looking at Gabe. Seems like he routinely finds himself with 4 fouls by the final media timeout. If he is getting whistled early and often, our defense may show cracks that their experience guards will take advantage of. I'm guessing they will attack him knowing he is prone to picking up fouls.

Anyone else debating how much they are willing to lose on a Miami ML bet for a trip to the Elite 8?
I said in the CW ATS thread I did indeed put $500 on the Miami ML. I win either way and I have told myself it’s just like if I was paying to go to the game. I obviously am not but if I could it would run me more than $500 so I am hoping to lose it.

I agree, staying out of foul trouble and making sure Miami doesn't get in the bonus/dbl bouns too early (because they likely will) is key. Need out best guys on the floor.

The good ole 'personal hedge' I have been doing this for the later part of the season (when ISU was needing to win games to get into the tourney and now in tourney) safe to say my DraftKings account is quite low now, but i'm very happy about it!!!

Ballsy. Even if ISU won, I could find a way to be pissed about losing $500.
