I swear on ESPN Radio today I heard a commercial for the draft with a talking head saying something like "if this were 1985, Breece Hall would go in the top 15 or 10". Anyone else hear that? Might have been Kiper...
Yes, Kiper recently said that.I swear on ESPN Radio today I heard a commercial for the draft with a talking head saying something like "if this were 1985, Breece Hall would go in the top 15 or 10". Anyone else hear that? Might have been Kiper...
This is like saying, “If this season goes like previous seasons have gone”…prior to the ‘21 season. Or prior to CMC’s arrival. If this draft goes how previous ones have for ISU, we get all hyped about a potential first rounder only to see Breece be RB3 and go in the 3rd round. Then Kolar in the 5th and Rose and Uwazarike UFAs. The NFL draft is so weird. We see our backup RB in Kene go in the 3rd? round, but any of our past starters like ARob don't get a sniff. Akers makes a practice squad while Hakeem Butler is out of football. A lot of it doesn't make sense to me.
We're definitely getting better players and winning more. But what hasn't changed is our fanbase. Every year it's the same thing. Someone sees one of our players in a random mock draft and everyone just assumes he's going to go that high. Then when the draft rolls around, everyone is confused as to why Charlie Kolar went undrafted or Breece dropped to the 3rd round. Rinse and repeat. Fans here are consistently overvaluing our players. Maybe that's all fans, but we seem to be really good at it.This is like saying, “If this season goes like previous seasons have gone”…prior to the ‘21 season. Or prior to CMC’s arrival.
Things have changed, and are only going to keep changing more.
I actually told my buddy I thought this could be a landing spot for him. They upgraded their line & Mixon is good but not a game changer, they’d have a 1-2 punch & then could release Mixon next offseason to save 7-10mil plus a rookie RB would be 7mil cheaper than what they already are paying him. This one has him going 31 to the Bengals. I cant see it since they already have a good RB.
Mixon has also been around about as long as you expect most RBs to last. In addition he's been pretty injury prone. Wouldn't be the best spot for a year 1 takeover for Breece but wouldn't be terrible either to be tied to Burrow IMO.I actually told my buddy I thought this could be a landing spot for him. I’d love to see him with the ravens alongside their other rb coming off his injuryIf this is 1999 Breece is assured of a top 5 pick in the First Round. Alas, it is 2022 and RBs are devalued.
I know most here are biased, but with his workout AND his tape I cannot see where his is not the RB with the best chance to go in the first round. To me it is not even close.
If you were guaranteed that he would go in the first round, which team would you put your money on? I see a few teams that are a stud RB away from being the best version of themself in 2023.
How would that change if you wanted Breece to play for your favorite NFL team?
The problem with your argument is, it ignores the simple fact that it’s not just us fans who are seeing positives. Not with such a large number being invited to the Combine, and not with those players doing so well both there and at their Pro Day workouts. We're definitely getting better players and winning more. Can we get the list of guys you thought we had going in the first round? If this draft goes how previous ones have for ISU, we get all hyped about a potential first rounder only to see Breece be RB3 and go in the 3rd round. That’s the problem right there. Around 250 players get drafted, but around 335 get invited to the combine. That’s 85 combine invitees minimum who aren’t drafted. And EVERYONE has a great pro day. We just don’t hear about other teams or care to. Pro day times are usually at least a tenth better, the drills are set up to put the players in the best light. Pro day results are close to meaningless. The problem with your argument is, it ignores the simple fact that it’s not just us fans who are seeing positives. It’s justified by the actual facts to be optimistic, rather than simply drinking Cyclone KoolAid.

ISU fans have been optimistic about our draft chances for years. How often has it actually went the way we hoped? But I do think some of it is just ignorance on what the nfl wants and then the competition out there.

Most fans do not go in depth on pro days at other schools. And why would they? Pro day write ups are basically puff pieces for the fans. If you are a borderline draftable player, there’s a good chance you have a great pro day. Not so hard to stand out vs guys who are going to be selling insurance next year.Who doesn’t hear about the other players? Some of us pay attention.
No, not “everyone” has a great pro day. You’re reaching to make your point—and not a short distance.
